Jagex has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Back-end Engineer to join our internal tooling team for a 5-month maternity cover. Your mission? To help craft and maintain the tools and infrastructure that supercharge the Games Operations department (Player Support, Localisation, Quality Assurance and External Services).

We’re a small Scrum team of 7 people, made up of front-end and Back-end engineers as well as User Experience specialists. The role will involve working closely with our Senior Back-end Engineer to create a variety of systems such as applications, APIs and scheduled data ingestions. You may also contribute to managing the systems architecture and infrastructure.

What you'll be doing:

  • Develop small features independently in Java and collaborate with our Senior Back-end Engineer on moderate-sized features

  • Your primary output will be creating and maintaining internal services, applications and data ingestions

  • Use CI/CD to contribute to a project as part of a team

  • Engage in the development process by actively contributing code through pull requests

  • Embrace constructive feedback provided during regular code reviews to enhance your skills and the overall code quality and maintainability of our tools

  • Participate in technical discussions and offer ideas to shape the design and implementation of new Back-end tools

  • Attend Agile Scrum meetings to help plan tasks within your domain

  • Contribute to our key 2024 team initiative to expand tools and systems support to additional teams within the department.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience in Java with Springboot.

  • Experience or interest in Python, AWS and Docker

  • Passionate about technology and a willingness to learn.

  • The ability to understands and demonstrates agile principles and values.
