Job Summary:

Founded in 2010, Respawn was created with the philosophy that when talented people have creative freedom, they’ll make extraordinary games that achieve the unexpected. Respawn Entertainment is the Academy Award-winning studio behind Apex Legends, Titanfall, and Star Wars Jedi titles. Join us to help shape the future of one of the world’s leading live service franchises: Apex Legends.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will drive the development of foundational technologies and work to improve the performance and stability of Apex Legends. You will work closely with gameplay teams—engineers, designers, artists, animators, and producers—to create and maintain a wide variety of systems across our entire technical stack, from the engine to our game services backend. Ultimately, your work will help ensure every new release of the game to our players is of outstanding quality and the best experience possible.

Responsibilities:
  • Debug and resolve complex issues in large-scale codebases across a variety of abstraction layers.

  • Collaborate with other engineers to quantify game performance, prevent regressions, and improve launch stability.

  • Design, own, and maintain our gameplay and engine systems, focused on performance and stability across consoles and dedicated servers.

  • Analyze live telemetry and crash data to find defects, prioritize fixes, and guide improvements that directly impact the player experience.

  • Build the tools and automated content validation that keep artists, designers, and QA moving quickly and prevent bugs from reaching players.

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years developing and maintaining software, or equivalent game development experience.

  • Experience working in large, shared codebases, in games or otherwise.

  • Strong working knowledge of C/C++.

  • Proficiency in programming or scripting languages such as Python.

  • Experience with profiling, auditing, and optimizing software performance.

  • Experience debugging and supporting software running in production.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience on a live service game or other continuously operated product, including feature flags, kill switches, and staged rollouts.

  • Familiarity with embedded scripting languages and the boundary between engine code and game script.

  • Experience with content or asset build pipelines and adding automated validation to them.

  • Experience building developer-facing or content-creator tooling.

  • Experience with backend or web services and cloud infrastructure.
