- 3+ years designing shipped, player-facing interfaces for games or interactive entertainment, mobile, console or handheld.
- Touch-first interaction design: direct manipulation, a coherent gesture vocabulary, thumb reach and grip zones, targets sized for fingers rather than cursors, scroll and drag physics with real weight, and immediate feedback in a world that has no hover state.
- You’re designing for primary input: matching navigation, clear focus and selection states, and consistent conventions.
- Strong visual craft, with evidence in your portfolio: typography, grid and layout, spacing and hierarchy, and color used to carry state and meaning rather than decoration. Your work has a point of view and aims to bring to life intuitive and innovative patterns.
- You treat motion, sound, and haptics as core material rather than final polish. You design moments where a transition, an audio cue, and a rumble land together and make a selection feel physical.
- Design system fluency. You can build and document a component with its variants and states, make it scale across screen contexts, and articulate when a pattern should be reused, extended, or deliberately broken.
- Define when console layouts can scale dynamically to handheld screen size versus when they must diverge into bespoke, handheld-specific UI layouts to prevent compromised readability and interactivity.
- Own the UX for platform-specific states and compliance requirements, designing transitions for device suspend/resume, inactivity dimming, offline play, and variable network conditions.
- Leverage best-in-class localization and accessibility standards in your work. Advocate for what great looks like.
- Fluency in Figma at a systems level, comfort with AI-based prototyping tools e.g. Claude Code, Figma Make, etc.
- Own the end-to-end player experience for your features, from concept through ship: flows, wireframes, high-fidelity design, motion and haptic direction, and support through implementation.
- Leverage & contribute to an established FC Design System, extending it for handheld context.
- Define input models and navigation paths for touch and platform-specific input, and make the transitions between them feel seamless.
- Prototype and evaluate on hardware early and often.
- Partner with game designers, producers, engineers, research, and product managers to make the feel of the interface a shared, deliberate outcome.
- Work within platform requirements and first-party guidelines so that certification is a checkpoint rather than a late scramble.
- Shipped a title on handheld platforms (ex: Mobile, Switch 1/2, ROG Ally, MSI Claw, Steam Deck)
- Hands-on experience with Unity, Unreal/UMG, or a proprietary UI framework, enough to prototype in-engine or reason about what is implementable.
- Experience with diegetic or in-world UI
