As Design Manager, you are responsible for building design culture within a new incubation design team. You will partner closely with the project’s directors to make sure the design team is effectively meeting project needs. While we value and desire a strong design background, this role is primarily focused on people management and organizational health. Most importantly, you will work with a fun, dedicated, and passionate cross-discipline team devoted to turning a creative dream into a new franchise at Bungie.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build strong relationships with Project Directors to understanding the product’s vision and goals.

  • Work with creative and design directors to improve organization, processes, practices, and communication in the department.

  • Partner with production to build org charts and staffing plans that best align with the skillsets of the team with the project direction.

  • Serve as primary design point person in the recruiting process.

  • Establish a culture of strong management in the department, guide and train new managers, and ensure that clear feedback is given, accountability is high, and designers feel supported.

  • Manage performance review cycles to ensure proper feedback is given and that promotions are awarded fairly with consistent standards.

  • Make focused efforts to increase diversity in the department and develop leaders from under-represented communities.

  • Work with the Head of Design to define department philosophies, strategies, and values.

  • Relentlessly evangelize and hold people accountable to Bungie design values.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Proven experience managing and/or leading a design organization of 10+ people.

  • Demonstrated ability to build a team with a "we" culture in addition to being an outstanding collaborator.

  • Possesses excellent conflict resolution skills.

  • Exemplary ability to provide clear goals and outcomes to teammates with high social and emotional intelligence and clear communicator.

  • Demonstrated ability to create team-wide adopted frameworks that build common language.

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS:

  • Interest in social design of online communities (guilds, clans, groups, etc) as a player or leader

  • Interest in global gaming markets and the competitive gaming/esports landscape

Listed below is this role's base pay range. In other locations that Bungie has approved for remote work, this pay range may be adjusted up to +/- 10% and some roles may be classified as non-exempt (hourly). This range is determined by an array of factors, including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Bellevue Pay Range

$160,000—$188,000 USD

Bungie full-time (non-contract) employees in the U.S. also receive:

  • 20 days of accrued time-off in the form of PTO and sabbatical days, depending on the level of the position

  • 10 paid Floating Days annually, prorated in the first year of employment based on start date

  • 10 paid Bungie-observed holidays annually

  • One hour of Paid Sick Time (PST) for every 30 hours worked

Contract and International FTE employees receive competitive benefits through their relevant contracting agency.
