We are seeking a talented Senior Systems Designer to join our growing team at Bethesda Game Studios Austin. Senior Systems Designers are responsible for the design, implementation, balance, and upkeep of game systems. The ideal candidate will be able to work as a strong individual contributor as well as drive a multidisciplinary strike team to create high quality features and content.

Responsibilities

  • Create easy to follow design documentation
  • Ability to get hands-on and implement gameplay elements in our proprietary toolset
  • Prototype new ideas and systems with existing tools and game script
  • Drive new features and content as a strike team Lead
  • Collaborate with artists, engineers and other designers in strike teams
  • Provide feedback and guidance to other members of design
  • Work closely with design leadership and production to ensure consistency, scope, and quality of systems
  • Work with analytics team and stakeholders to define success criteria for new features
  • Assist in assessing the performance of new features as well as legacy ones, and help determine future steps to take
  • Assist in mentoring junior members of the design team

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a design capacity on PC or console games
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with a variety of established game toolsets
  • Proficient in one or more text-based scripting languages
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment with cross disciplinary groups
  • Experience shipping a AAA game or patching/maintaining a live AAA game
  • Experience designing multiplayer game systems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Expert user with Excel
  • Excellent math skills
  • Candidate may be asked to take a short design test that includes both scripting and design sections

Preferred Skills

  • Experience creating mods or content for BGS games using the CreationKit
  • Strong knowledge and interest in Fallout lore
  • Solid debugging experience with text based script languages
  • Open World Sandbox game experience
