As a UX Designer for Amazon FreeTime you should be at ease creating scenarios, sketches, story boards, wireframes, mock-ups and prototypes. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to visualize an experience in the abstract, break down complex use-cases and then being able to drive the vision into solid design deliverables. You will lead, define, and drive UX for products that span Alexa, mobile, and devices for kids and families. You must be an innovator, since you will be expected to create solutions for exciting and ambitious ideas for which no interaction paradigm currently exists. You must be extremely proactive, because you will regularly find yourself in uncharted territory where the key to your success will be to get ahead of the curve. Candidates will have experience designing for mobile devices, strong project management skills, and possess excellent communication skills. Amazon FreeTime brings together all types of content that kids and parents love including books, games, educational apps, and videos. It provides peace of mind for parents with parental controls and a world of fun for kids to choose from thousands of the most popular titles and age-appropriate content. We are looking for a designer and a leader who can:

  • Create the vision for developing, communicating, and implementing the user experience for products that will engage kids and parents will trust; follow through with the processes and tactics to fulfill the vision.
  • Oversee close coordination with the product management team to develop a shared vision of a product and then lead a process to define the experience and design to deliver on the product’s objectives.
  • Drive design projects through all phases, from user research and exploratory mockups to design reviews, delivery, and usability testing.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively within cross-functional teams that span design, product, engineering, and management.
  • Inspire and mentor designers on the UX team.
  • Develop and contribute deep knowledge of the latest user research practices, HCI research, design guidelines, and design heuristics.
  • Solicit and accept feedback, weigh inputs and priorities, and take part in constructive dialogue to resolve healthy debates.
  • Conduct design reviews with senior leadership showing a strong ability to communicate design ideas and the customer and business impact of designs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 6+ years of design experience
  • An available online portfolio
  • Bachelor's Degree in digital design, graphic design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10+ years professional experience as an interactive designer / user experience designer; experience in human computer interaction.
  • Experience in data-driven analytics capabilities and an understanding of current speech and language technologies.
  • Experience shipping consumer products.
  • Experience working across teams to synthesize feedback and input from product management, engineering, and marketing.
  • Experience presenting to and influencing senior management.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability and passion to design for kids
  • Ability to prototype with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
  • Past experience in designing or launching novel experiences and/or interaction paradigms for consumer products (software or hardware).
  • Experience with agile/scrum
  • Background in script writing, creative writing, or game design is a plus
