DESCRIPTION

Amazon Game Studios is seeking an Engine Programmer to join our team in sunny Irvine, CA. This position will build on top of an established engine to enable the unique look & gameplay of The Lord of the Rings.

In this role you will explore the game's unique visual style on a variety of platforms. You will give our content teams the engine features and tools necessary to build both handcrafted and procedural worlds. You will work with the larger engineering team to pursue exceptional performance, both at runtime and at build time.

What you'll do:

  • Own the engine layer of The Lord of the Rings and decide when and whether to make modifications
  • Apply or build visual engine features to achieve the look desired by the Art Director
  • Apply or build engine features necessary to support the procedural gameplay and scene size desired by the Creative Director
  • Deliver fantastic performance to a demanding range of PC hardware
  • Bring the game to next-generation Consoles, ensuring performance and compliance
  • Maintain and enhance engineering workflows for the team
  • Establish budgets for content creators
  • Set engine coding standards and practices

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • A passion for video games
  • 3+ years experience with performance optimization for a AAA multiplayer games
  • 5+ years experience with C++ and optimizing C++ based game engines on PC and console hardware

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • History of shipping AAA titles
  • Expertise in two or more of the following engine areas: threading, streaming, graphics, simulation, physics
  • Console experience
  • 3D math knowledge and problem solving
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.
