Academy of Art University's School of Game Development is currently hiring Part-Time Instructors with open positions for online, onsite and virtual learning (aka video distance education) to teach a variety of Game Development classes including Programming, Game Design, 3D Modeling, and Scripting.

As a Part-Time Game Instructor, you will:

  • Teach 3-18 hours of established course material per week.
  • Grade student work and provide timely feedback on weekly assignments, midterms, finals, and long-term projects.
  • Provide mentoring opportunities in both one-on-one and workshop style environments.
  • Support curriculum by helping to keep coursework up-to-date according to industry standards.
  • Help guide graduate students through the thesis creation process.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of professional game industry experience.
  • 1 or more shipped projects / development cycles.
  • Excellent verbal, written, problem solving, professional and interpersonal skills.

Programming Skills:

  • At least 5 years of professional C/C++ programming experience.
  • Strong knowledge of game programming techniques.
  • Mastery of game architecture and common design patterns.
  • Expertise in common data structures and algorithms used in games.
  • Experience with low-level programming and optimization.

Game Design Skills:

  • Experience developing games in the latest versions of Unity and / or Unreal.
  • Experience with the fundamentals of practical game design: level design, systems design, and narrative.
  • Experience in scripting with both traditional and visual tool sets.
  • Experience with game development tools: Photoshop, Maya, Perforce, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent visual and written presentation skills.

3D Modeling Skills:

  • Experience developing games in Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter/Designer and Photoshop
  • Experience with the fundamentals of 3D modeling: Environment, Character, Prop, Texturing, Digital Sculpting, Hard Surface, Lighting
  • A strong understanding of 3D pipelines and tools
  • Strong eye for form, shape, structure and silhouette in regards to modeling
