What We Need:

2K is looking for The Director, Licensing & ESports who will collaborate with Publishing and Development teams to effectively strategize and drive 2K’s inbound and outbound licensing efforts with a special focus on the NBA 2K League and overall ESports licensing and programs. These broad responsibilities are integral to 2K's revenue and growth targets and include gaining strategic alignment with Sports Leagues as other major entertainment licensees and licensors 2K partners.

What You Will Do:

  • Works across multiple 2K Publishing teams and Development studios to navigate portions of the company licensing initiatives and rights management within specific focus areas.
  • Negotiates deal terms with talent/licensees across multiple titles within specified program budgets while driving alignment across marketing, commercial, development, legal, finance and executive teams to execute 50+ contracts per year.
  • Manages critical partnerships and leads inbound and outbound licensing efforts for the company including:
    • Sports & Entertainment Properties:
      • Manages key relationships with Licensors and leagues with specific focus on NBA 2K League and other ESports activities.
      • Negotiates property /athlete/celebrity endorsement deals for 2K IP.
    • NBA2K League Management:
      • Leads relevant communications and execution of activities related to league between 2K, 2K League, and NBA.
      • Serves as the main contact for our Visual Concept development team to support the 2K League and execute on long-term strategic needs.
    • Esports:
      • Leads the overall strategy and execution of an evolving video game competitive strategy across 2K titles.
      • Manages the global submission process across 2K for 3rd party licensed ESports programs; inclusive of gaining all relevant approvals and contracting processes.
  • Other General Licensing
    • In-game – secure in-game licensing rights for real-world locations and brands in order for our in-game environments to be authentic as possible.
    • Secures rights for various IPs to be used in conjunction with in-game development, post-release content, and/or marketing initiatives.
    • Delivers licensing programs to expand the reach of 2K IP and to align with new sports and entertainment audiences on global scale.
  • Internal Brand Responsibilities:
    • Works cross-functionally with brand teams, legal, agencies, and partners to identify and execute operational and marketing strategies associated with all ESports executions.
    • Works heavily with PR team on opportunities for NBA 2K League, ESports events, and 2K Foundations.
    • Ensures establishment of relevant measurement criteria and lead all aspects of the tracking and analysis of ESports programs

Who We Think Will Be a Great Fit:

  • 8+ years experience in ESports and/ or partnership management.
  • Experience negotiating entertainment & sports licensing deals, celebrity/athlete contracts, and other inbound/outbound licensing initiatives with a strong focus on partnership management.
  • Previous ESports event & licensing experience.
  • Experience working with brand partners, talent agencies, and celebrities.
  • Strong knowledge of or previous experience working within the video game industry.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proactive ability to maintain relationships and influence/persuade others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively connect and build trust with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
