ABOUT THE POSITION
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design user interfaces, HUD, and screen flows from concept through final implementation, and adapt existing interfaces to new platforms and input methods such as controller.
- Design focus navigation, button mapping, and input glyph usage so every screen is fully usable with a controller.
- Implement UI screens in Unreal Engine 5 using UMG and Common UI, taking each screen from mockup to a working, tested state.
- Build and maintain UI component libraries and templates to work efficiently across a large number of screens.
- Produce annotated mockups, user flows, and design documentation suitable for reviews.
Work within an established style guide and design direction when one exists, and help define it when one does not. - Apply console platform requirements for UI, including safe area, text legibility, glyphs, and system messaging.
- Design layouts that hold up across multiple languages and text lengths.
- Collaborate with engineers, artists, and designers to integrate UI and resolve technical constraints.
- Work with QA to find, reproduce, and fix reported UI issues.
- Share knowledge and mentor other designers.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 5 years in a UI/UX design role.
- Shipped at least one full-cycle title, from pre-production to launch, on console, PC, or a major mobile title in a UI/UX design role.
- Experience adapting UI from mouse and keyboard to controller and vice versa, including focus navigation, button mapping, and input glyphs.
- Proficient in Unreal Engine 5, including UMG and Common UI.
- Proficient in Figma or a comparable design and prototyping tool.
- Strong visual design skills in composition, iconography, layout, typography, and color.
- Competent in creating user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and design documentation.
- Good understanding of UX best practices and interaction design fundamentals.
- Experience with system-heavy games that have many interconnected screens.
- Working knowledge of console platform requirements for UI, such as those from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.
- Able to work within an existing style guide and design direction.
- A portfolio showing shipped UI work and relevant skills.
- Able to build quick prototypes.
- Proactive in taking on tasks and raising problems to the right stakeholders.
- Able to take feedback, act on it, and give clear feedback to others.
- Able to prioritize tasks and deliver quality work on time.
- English at an adequate level, for meetings, documentation, and collaboration with English-speaking colleagues and clients. Native English fluency is not required.
Strongly preferred
- Experience working as a game designer or level designer on previous projects, especially on console.
- Console or PC experience on a shipped AA or AAA title.
- A portfolio that includes controller or console UI work.
- Experience with accessibility features and requirements on console.
- Experience with UI/UX for games on multiple platforms, across console, PC, and mobile.
Bonus
- Experience with Unity UI, including UGUI and UI Toolkit.
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or After Effects.
- Korean language ability.
- Experience leading a team of designers or artists on a project.
- Experience working across multiple studios in a co-development setting.
- Experience working in an English-speaking environment.
- Willing to travel and work at our other studios in China when a project needs it.
