Junior Technical Artist

Here at Trailmix we’re looking for a talented and ambitious Jr technical artist. Experienced in 3D and Unity, with a strong 2D sensibility, you'll help implement new areas of the map of our Merge mobile game Love & Pies. You’ll help our art and narrative teams to implement content efficiently, overcome problems, and maintain (and improve!) Love and Pies' ever growing map & unique visual style.

Our ideal candidate has an extensive knowledge of working in Unity and Maya and/or Blender, creating, implementing and finding enjoyment in technical aspects that add creativity into the game.

Responsibilities

  • IMPLEMENTING OUTSOURCED ASSETS - Adding a variety of content from outsourcers into the Love & Pies project and setting up the relevant backend, animation and gameplay components. And occasionally communicating technical feedback and constraints with them.

  • SUPPORTING 3D & ANIMATIONS - Supporting artists with 3D asset creation and advising best practises in Maya and/or Blender and assisting in the creation of Unity animations and particles.

  • FIXING SIMPLE BUGS - Working with the content, QA and developer teams to fix a range of visual and content related bugs on a fast moving production schedule, as well as helping to effectively maintain branches within our source control systems.

  • SUPPORTING ART & CONTENT DESIGN - Helping the content design teams with general concerns and supporting their process using Unity and Love and Pies tooling. This also involves helping with the technical aspects of cutscene creation and getting up to speed on our content management system and its many uses.

  • COMMUNICATING ENGINE LIMITATIONS - Helping to advise artists and outsourcers on engine limitations of new map areas whilst helping to push their creative vision. This includes having a strong awareness of texture sizing and asset constraints.

  • IMPLEMENTATION TOOLING - Highlighting easy wins in the implementation process and working with developers or tooling outsourcers to improve this.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years previous experience working on a released game project as a technical artist or similar.

  • Rockstar experience in Unity working with 2D & 3D assets, shader & materials, textures, animation controllers, particle systems and cameras

  • Experience working with assets in Maya and/or Blender, low poly environment modelling, optimised UVing and texturing, efficient and clean workfiles for scalable scenes

  • Excellent communication skills to clearly convey technical concepts and requirements to both technical and non-technical team members

  • Experience working with Github or other source control software

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with Spine: skinning, animating and rigging

Location

Trailmix is operating under a hybrid work model - we have 3 days a week (Monday, Thursday & Friday) in person at our brand new studio in Kings X with the remaining 2 days available to work from home.
