12 month FTC covering duties due to on-going project work. Hybrid, working from the Sheffield studio at least 2 day per week (our team usually visits the studio on Tuesdays & Thursdays).
Are you a recent graduate looking to take your first step into a career in HR? We have an exciting opportunity to join the People Team at Sumo Digital on a 12-month fixed-term contract.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a broad range of HR activities within a true generalist team. You’ll support day-to-day HR administration and processes while gaining exposure to areas including employee relations, recruitment, learning and development, benefits, and more - all within the fast-paced and exciting games industry.
HR Administration

- An interest in developing a career within HR. A CIPD Foundation qualification, HR apprenticeship or equivalent study is essential.
- Strong attention to detail and confidence working accurately with employee information, dates, documents and routine data.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with a helpful and professional approach to employees, candidates and colleagues.
- Good organisation skills and sound judgement, with the ability to prioritise work, follow established processes, handle confidential information and escalate appropriately.
- Confidence using Microsoft 365 or similar workplace tools, and the ability to learn HR, recruitment and benefits systems.
HR Administration
- Completes day‑to‑day HR administration accurately and within agreed timescales, using established processes, templates and checklists.
- Prepares standard letters, forms and employee documentation for review and issue.
- Maintains accurate employee records across the HR Information System and supporting trackers, carrying out routine data checks and resolving straightforward discrepancies.
- Manages electronic filing and document storage in line with data protection, confidentiality and retention requirements.
- Supports onboarding activity, including starter documentation, pre‑employment checks, system set‑up and coordination with relevant teams.
- Processes approved changes to employee details, roles, pay and working arrangements, ensuring the correct information and authorisation are in place.
- Supports offboarding activity, including leaver documentation, system updates and coordination of required actions.
- Provides administration for other routine HR processes and annual activity as required.
- Monitors the shared HR inbox and responds to straightforward queries in a timely, professional and helpful way.
- Signposts employees and managers to relevant policies, guidance and resources.
- Escalates sensitive, complex or unfamiliar queries to an appropriate People Team colleague, keeping employees informed of progress.
- Provides administrative support across the recruitment process, including vacancy set‑up, interview scheduling and candidate communications.
- Supports the preparation of offer documentation, pre‑employment checks and handover into onboarding.
- Supports routine benefits administration, including processing joiners, leavers and approved changes, and responding to straightforward employee queries.
- Collates and checks approved payroll and benefits changes before submission, following agreed controls and cut‑off dates.
- Works with People, Payroll, Finance and benefits providers to resolve routine administrative queries, escalating exceptions where required.
- Works collaboratively across the People Team, supporting shared priorities and contributing to a consistent service.
- Identifies practical improvements to templates, guidance and administrative processes based on day‑to‑day experience.
- Builds HR knowledge through coaching and feedback, handles sensitive information with discretion and seeks guidance whenever a request is unclear or presents a potential risk.
