WHY DATA SCIENCE & ANALYTICS?

The Data Science & Analytics organization's mission is to increase our speed, frequency, and acumen of our business decisions and to empower and scale product innovations. We cover a wide area of the data spectrum, including analytical data engineering, product analytics, experimentation, causal inference, statistical modeling, economics, and machine learning. Aligned and partnering with product groups, we use this vast tool belt to discover new opportunities and unmet use cases, influence and shape the product roadmap and prioritization, build data products and measure the impact / incrementality on our community of players, developers, and advertisers.

WHY ECONOMY SCIENCE AT ROBLOX?

Economy Science leads the understanding, at scale, cross-Roblox economic behaviors to inform product roadmaps and company strategy. The team is accountable for understanding and advising the engagement-monetization tradeoffs, and interactions among Robux pricing, advertising products and offers, and in-experience economies. As a renewed strategic area, work will be innovative and impactful. Scientific rigor will be critical in success as we organize our data model, design principled measurement systems, and architect the future of incrementality measurement of ecosystem interactions and behavioral drivers.

You will lead development of rigorous measurement approaches and products to understand ecosystem interactions - across homepage, our Avatar marketplace, in-experience economies, and payments (in collaboration with engineers and product managers) to deliver actionable insights to advance company goals and financial performance. We take the long view and seek a rigorous and principled system, and you will be critical to setting that vision. You will report directly to the Data Science Leader overseeing our Economy DSA team.

You Will:

  • Lead science product development for actionable insights on ecosystem-wide behaviors

  • Drive a vision for analytic products that identify and size causal levers to inform company strategy and priorities

  • Own metric refinement and measurement strategy for our virtual goods ecosystem that reflect first principles

  • Design science roadmaps and experimentation agendas to test hypotheses to increase our domain understanding

  • Contribute to data model strategy for future science organization success and operational efficiency

You Have:

  • Deep experience in leading science product development while setting a high bar

  • Proven strength in scaled causal modeling, with applications in strategic priorities

  • 6+ years of industry or academic experience in data science, economics, or analytics

  • 8+ years of experience using scripting languages (Python, R), and big data query/processing languages and tools such as SQL, Hive, Spark and Airflow

  • Experience in simplifying complex and ambiguous problems

  • Graduate education in a technical field (preferred: rigorous applied training including a PhD in economics / statistics / bioinformatics / cognitive science / physics / similar)

You Are:

  • Committed to setting and raising quality standards for science outputs and systems

  • A strong communicator. You understand that analysis must be presented in meaningful ways and lead spirited discussions about the findings. You can explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and discuss appropriate tradeoffs.

  • Candid on relative opportunities for impact, and evidence-seeking to update beliefs.

  • Highly proficient in a specialized technical area: econometrics, biostatistics, observational causal inference, causal ML, and/or data modeling

  • Proficient in data and applied methodologies. You use cutting-edge techniques (or develop new ones) to extract value and drive insights for strategic topics.
