The Director of Privacy will play a pivotal role in establishing and leading the Privacy Engineering team within our Infosec organization.

As the Director of Privacy Engineering, you will foster innovation while leading a build-first privacy and software engineering team. Additionally, you will be a key decision maker and owner for the Privacy Initiatives at Roblox which ensure that Roblox is an engaging and safe place.

This unique position requires a dynamic individual with a comprehensive understanding of both the regulatory landscape and engineering principles.

You will:

  • Establish and lead a privacy engineering team consisting of individuals with expertise in security, governance, compliance, and engineering.

  • Develop a deep understanding of the regulatory environment, staying informed about evolving privacy laws and compliance standards.

  • Act as a liaison between legal and engineering teams to ensure policies align with regulatory requirements.

  • Advocate for the company's commitment to privacy and responsible data handling both internally and externally.

  • Take ownership of privacy initiatives, ensuring alignment with the company's values and objectives.

  • Collaborate with various departments, emphasizing the educational mission of the organization and its commitment to data protection.

You have:

  • Strong knowledge of data privacy and security concepts, including Privacy by Design principles, and have applied experience leading privacy engineering projects

  • An expert understanding of global Privacy and Data Protection regulations (e.g. GDPR, CCPA) and their typical engineering solutions

  • A demonstrated ability to use data to test, plan, and solve complex engineering problems

  • Experience building and leading a build-first privacy and software engineering team from a very early stage, scoping the work, setting the vision, and making great hiring decisions

  • Experience leading through other leaders both in your organization and through cross-functional influence

  • The ability to build and maintain healthy cross-functional partnerships with key stakeholders and other technical and non-technical teams.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range

$383,910—$440,190 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
