Staff Backend Software Engineer – PXT Team

We have a great opportunity to join our PlayStation Commerce Team. This key role will be instrumental in the technology transformation of current commerce platform.

As a Staff Software Development Engineer in the team, you will design highly scalable systems, develop distributed services, collaborate with product managers, architects, engineers, operations team members across PlayStation and build solid commerce platform solutions. We are a fast-paced environment. We encourage innovation and expect developers to take a high level of ownership throughout the software life cycle. Supporting the ongoing and dramatic growth on our platform.

We work in an Agile Scrum environment with a team of highly engaged engineers. You will contribute to architectural direction for our large-scale commerce systems under Sony’s PlayStation Network Platform. Maintain operational ownership of mission critical components running in the production environment. Become a subject matter expert and provide strong technical leadership and mentoring.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will

  • Provide component and system level designs for large-scale commerce systems under Sony’s PlayStation Network Platform.

  • Implement interactive web-based services and commerce capabilities using industry leading technology choices.

  • Maintain ongoing operational ownership of components deployed to the production environment.

  • Become a subject matter expert and provide strong technical leadership

  • Develop and maintain tools using Golang and other industry relevant languages.

  • Perform testing and bug fixing

  • Perform code reviews

  • Assist with hiring and training/mentoring of new staff.

  • Develop AWS based systems using managed services such as:

    • AWS Lambda (Python and Node)

    • AWS S3

    • AWS Kinesis

    • AWS DynamoDB

    • AWS SNS

    • AWS SQS

Required Skills and capabilities

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience

  • 10+ years large scale programming and systems experience, Python, Golang and Java.

  • Experience working with source management system platforms such as Git

  • Experience developing Microservices, REST APIs, and other database-driven applications using Golang.

  • Experience with eCommerce concepts, systems, and platforms

  • Experience with Containers (Docker and Kubernetes)

  • Strong Experience with Event Driven Architecture. CQRS, Event Sourcing, Event Storming.

  • Experience in full life-cycle agile software development.

  • Experience with Cloud technologies and platforms.

  • Experience in object-oriented analysis and design.

  • Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, design patterns, and implementation approaches

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Desire to build, collaborate and develop strong and positive team relationships

  • Attention to detail, organization skills, and strong work ethic

  • You possess a drive and passion for quality with the ability to inspire, excite and motivate other team members.

Your Responsibilities to the Team

  • Have a strong desire to educate others and help people with problems

  • Lead and develop innovative techniques, design patterns and tools that take advantage of our advanced platform architectures to increase quality and performance on PlayStation® platforms

  • Promote and foster innovation within the systems team to produce creative solutions to problems

  • Develop projects that will be the foundation of future research projects.

  • Analyze software problems and provide practical items to developers

  • Be able to perform responsibilities with little direction or supervision

  • Be comfortable speaking to large groups.

  • Evangelist of event driven architecture.

Beneficial Experience

  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment/Delivery (CI/CD) concepts and practices

  • Event driven system.

  • Experience leading engineering teams and mentoring others.

  • Experience in developing cross-platform code.

  • Experience with test-driven development.

  • Experience with AWS, including infrastructure as code, cloud formation, or other AWS services (such as S3, dynamodb, elastic cache, etc.).

  • Experience with NoSQL

  • Experience with caching solutions such as Cassandra and Memcached.

  • Experience with eCommerce on a global scale.

  • Experience with Golang Application Servers/Containers.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$167,300—$250,900 USD
