Ready At Dawn is looking for a Principal VFX Artist to join us in creating a high-profile original AAA game in the VR space. In this role you will directly collaborate with studio leads, design, art, and engineering teams to execute on all manner of VFX, from gameplay and combat driven systems, to environmental atmospherics and destruction. Principal VFX Artist - Ready at Dawn Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Art, Gameplay, Design, and Animation teams to develop in-game FX elements, from early look development and prototyping to final polished implementation

  • Use the Unreal engine authoring tool set, Maya, Houdini, Substance, EmberGen and various other supplemental FX authoring packages to create stunning VFX particles, systems, textures, and simulations

  • Directly implement VFX content, including in-world placement and scripting of systemic / gameplay driven behaviors

  • Assess the needs of the overall game experience pillars and plan, propose, and execute challenging and high-risk VFX systems that elevate the quality of the title.

  • Where applicable, lead a small team of diverse cross-discipline specialists on key game feature areas with a significant VFX and technical component

  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of VFX systems and processes, including particle effect authoring, scripting, sequencing tools and pipelines

Minimum Qualifications

Prior experience with Meta can be considered to supplement an applicant’s prior years of experience or types of prior experience to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

  • 5+ years of experience as VFX artist in games

  • Experience with various supplemental 3D and VFX authoring packages (Ex: Maya, Houdini, EmberGen, Substance, etc)

  • Portfolio that demonstrates a breadth of both technical and artistic execution of real-time VFX

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional general art and technical experience (shaders/materials, modeling, scripting, pipeline development and automation)

  • Experience and interest in VR development

$171,000/year to $229,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual pay is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable. In addition to base salary, Meta offers benefits.
