Niantic is seeking a hard-working and intellectually curious Geodata Scientist to join our team. As a Geodata Scientist, you will play a crucial role in developing and enhancing the geospatial data infrastructure that powers our games. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including game designers, engineers, and data analysts, to ensure the accuracy, quality, and relevance of geospatial data used in our games.
Develop and maintain geospatial data pipelines, ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of large-scale geodata.
Use statistical techniques and geospatial data visualizations to analyze geospatial data and derive insights that can enhance gameplay and developer experience.
Collaborate with game designers and engineers to integrate geospatial data into game mechanics, ensuring a seamless and immersive player experience.
Implement data quality control measures to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of geospatial data.
Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in geospatial data technologies and methodologies, and propose solutions that improve our geodata infrastructure.
Collaborate with cross-functional team members and stakeholders, including regular and reliable attendance and participation in meetings.
Required in-office 2 days on Wednesday and Thursday.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Geography, Geoinformatics, or a related field.
Proven experience in geospatial data analysis, manipulation, and visualization.
Experience with geospatial databases and SQL.
Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages for data manipulation and analysis.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
Ability to work in a fast-paced hybrid environment and handle stress appropriately and/or ability to solve practical problems and be sufficiently adaptable to handle dynamic situations with little advance notice.
Experience working on cross-functional teams with ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communications, including synchronous interactions with others.
Familiarity with geospatial data formats (e.g., GeoJSON, Shapefile, KML) and coordinate systems (e.g., WGS84, UTM).
Proficiency in geospatial data processing tools and libraries such as ArcGIS, QGIS, GDAL, or PostGIS.
Passion for mobile gaming and augmented reality.
The total compensation package for this position includes a new hire offer base salary range of $158,000 - $176,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
Individual pay within this salary range is determined by work location and additional factors, including assessed job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
