We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead Gameplay Engineering teams to build outstanding AAA games. This person will be responsible for the health, happiness, and contributions of the Gameplay Engineering team on a single game, leading the team through multiple stages of development and building great working relationships with other departments (such as Project Management and Design). We are seeking a leader of leaders who will ensure excellent management of both individual contributors and other people managers. Our ideal candidate is interested in supporting diverse teams and employee well-being as well as shipping high-quality games.

Responsibilities:

  • Defining team/sub-team structure and staffing for different phases of development

  • Leading and supervising hiring processes

  • Setting vision and direction for a team (with the team's Programming Director)

  • Ensuring quality of people management and day-to-day management to ship a game

  • Overseeing engineering schedules and planning (with the Project Management department)

  • Growing other leaders, both people managers and individual contributors

  • Ensuring a safe and positive team culture and preventing harassment and discrimination

Required Skills:

  • 8+ total years of experience, including 5+ years of experience building, leading, and growing engineering teams

  • Experience in managing and growing other managers

  • Strong technical understanding and communication

  • Experience with software and development process improvements

  • Evaluating team workload against project schedules

  • Ability to build trust and positive relationships with teams across departments

Nice-to-have skills:

  • Experience shipping large and complex products with hundreds of contributors

  • Background in C++/advanced mathematics

  • Games industry experience in engineering and/or engineering management

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role is eligible for SIE’s top-tier benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, matching 401(k), paid time off, wellness program and coveted employee discounts for Sony products. This role also may be eligible for a bonus package.

This is a flexible role that can be remote, with varying pay ranges based on geographic location. For example, if you are based out of Seattle, the estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
