Accountant

Boston, MA, USA · Junior (1–2 years) · Full Time ·

We take play seriously. We’re looking for curious adventurers ready to find their party, fueled by imagination and drive to build what’s never been built before. At Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, you’ll collaborate with passionate teams to reimagine our iconic brands and create experiences that spark joy, connection, and community through the magic of play. This is your chance to shape legendary play that lasts a lifetime.

We are looking for an Accountant to join the team! This role will handle royalty accounting at Hasbro, focusing mainly on entertainment royalty revenue. This includes participation and residual reporting as well as preparing statements for our third-party partners. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Royalties, this position will ensure entertainment royalty revenue and related balances are recorded fully, accurately, and promptly. The Accountant will also assist with royalty accounting for Hasbro's wider licensee network. This role requires an accountant who takes full responsibility for their work and continuously seeks improvement.

This is an exciting time to join the team! We are modernizing how royalty accounting works by strengthening controls, simplifying processes, and setting a higher standard for accuracy and efficiency. We want someone who contributes to that from day one. Success here means performing your work reliably while identifying manual, repetitive, or fragile steps in your tasks and improving them.

Effective from the date that Hasbro opens its new Boston location, this position will be onsite Tuesday - Thursday at Hasbro's new HQ location in Boston, MA. In the interim, this position will be onsite Tuesday - Thursday at Hasbro's HQ in Pawtucket, RI or at Hasbro's temporary location in Boston, MA.

What You Will Do as an Accountant:

  • Manage entertainment royalty revenue accounting — calculate, classify, and record entertainment royalty revenue precisely, and prepare required journal entries, account reconciliations, and support for our business partners.
  • Keep track of participation and residual payments and report on them. Prepare guarantee statements for third-party partners. Confirm accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Support the close and controls by completing month-end and quarter-end close tasks. Prepare reconciliations and checks that maintain accurate and well-documented royalty accounting. Help address any gaps as they arise.
  • Cultivate continual advancement in your work — consistently detect manual, repetitive, or unstable steps and redesign, automate, or refine them; evaluate the impact and solidify the improvement.
  • Support the broader royalty function — help with royalty accounting, reconciliations, and analysis across Hasbro's wider network of licensees as required, contributing wherever the team requires additional capacity.
  • Collaborate throughout the business by working with Finance, Legal, business operations, and the broader royalty team. Keep royalty accounting consistent with operational realities and help resolve issues.
  • Read and apply contract terms by reviewing licensing and entertainment agreements and amendments. Ensure royalty accounting reflects the deal terms. Work with Technical Accounting on complex judgments.
  • Support audits — prepare documentation and respond to internal and external auditor requests, helping ensure the control environment holds up to scrutiny.
  • Complete ad hoc projects — support special analyses and process or system initiatives as the function evolves.

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or proven experience; moving toward or showing interest in a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is beneficial.
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience, including internships; public accounting and/or public company experience and Big Four exposure are a plus.
  • A genuine bias toward continuous improvement includes concrete examples from a job, internship, or project. These examples show spotting a manual or inefficient task and making it faster, cleaner, or automated.
  • Familiarity with US GAAP and internal controls / Sarbanes-Oxley principles; experience with revenue recognition (ASC 606) or entertainment revenue accounting (ASC 926) is advantageous.
  • Adaptability and curiosity with systems and technology, and eagerness to use tools to work more efficiently and reduce manual effort.
  • Experience in reviewing contracts, along with familiarity with entertainment, media, or licensing accounting, is advantageous.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with SAP and BlackLine a plus.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment while keeping accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and the ability to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment.
