Job Description

Join our talented team as we embark on an uncharted gaming adventure! We're on the lookout for a passionate Senior Level Designer to contribute their skills to a cutting-edge, undisclosed PC/Console video game project. Partnering with a major fantasy license, this stylized survival craft game promises to redefine the genre and capture the imaginations of players worldwide.

Role Description

  • Work closely with the art team and level designers to create top-notch in-game VFX with an emphasis on stylization.

  • Create key VFX concepts to sell the visual direction of the game.

  • Help to build a solid template library of assets that other members of the dev team can utilize.

  • Create a set of VFX benchmark assets, with clear documentation to guide your team.

  • Verify the quality of VFX in the game, and make improvements where necessary to fit technical constraints, performance targets, and artistic direction.

  • Meet project timelines and production schedules.

  • Mentor Intermediate and Junior VFX staff.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • High-quality portfolio of gamedev-relevant VFX, preferably with an emphasis on stylization

  • Strong technical knowledge of particle systems, shaders, and procedural animation

  • Understanding of node-based tools/engines and/or programming/scripting

  • Experience with VFX editors and real-time particle systems

  • Thorough knowledge of Maya, 3ds Max, Houdini, and/or other commercial 3D authoring packages

  • Proven experience in problem-solving and facilitating effective workflows

  • Experience working with industry-leading game engines such as Unity or Unreal (Unity experience is a plus)

  • Strong communication skills across all team departments

  • Understanding of game art, lighting, modeling, and animation is an asset

  • A great sense of form, color, and composition

  • An excellent understanding of game mechanics as they pertain to VFX

  • Educated on the latest trends, coupled with a strong perspective on how they relate to our current and future projects

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills

  • Effective time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines
