EA SPORTS is one of the leading sports entertainment brands in the world, with top-selling videogame franchises, award-winning interactive technology, fan programs, and cross-platform digital experiences. EA SPORTS creates connected experiences that ignite the emotion of sport through industry-leading sports video games, including Madden NFL football, EA Sports FC, NHL® hockey, NBA LIVE basketball, and EA SPORTS UFC.

At the heart of EA SPORTS is the FC franchise. EA SPORTS FC is the world's #1 best-selling video game with over 200M engaged players across multiple platforms, including console, PC, and mobile. Innovation, passion, and teamwork are at the heart of everything we do. With studios in Vancouver, Bucharest, and Cologne, we're looking for the brightest talent, so we can continue to create experiences that connect with millions of hearts and minds the world over.

The Gameplay team on EA Sports FC is at the core of the user experience. It is the strength of our franchise and offers endless learning and growth opportunities for Software Engineers. We attract and cultivate passionate team members by having a high-quality bar for our work, and by helping our Software Engineers build the tools needed to hit that bar themselves.

Gameplay SEs are much more involved in design than typical SEs. High-level designs are provided by designers, but details need to be implemented by the SEs. We have many valued SEs on our team with no soccer experience, but familiarity with our game or the real-world sport can provide useful context for our work and can provide added value.

Our workflow and supporting tools are advanced and allow us to iterate quickly. This allows us to see code changes directly in the game without much delay. Fixing gameplay bugs and seeing your code in action on the virtual pitch in a matter of minutes is an extremely satisfying experience.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Bring the vision of the artists and designers to life.

  • Design and write the code that runs and controls the game, incorporating and adapting existing libraries and writing custom code

  • Prototype new mechanics to prove designs and improve on mechanics.

  • Architect, and document technical designs for gameplay systems.

  • Develop tools and workflows to produce new game features.

  • Work with a proprietary engine to develop shareable code and interface correctly with the engine.

Your Qualifications:

Please note that you do not need to qualify for all requirements to be considered. We encourage you to apply if you can meet most of the requirements and are comfortable opening a dialog to be considered.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent training and professional experience

  • Proficiency with C++ and experience in object-oriented design and implementation

  • Experience architecting and implementing A.I., character control, multiplayer, or other gameplay-related systems

  • Demonstrated knowledge of good software programming practices

  • Understanding of multithreaded architectures and synchronization principles

  • Excellent Experience ensuring that code meets all functionality and acceptance criteria

  • Excellent debugging experience using tools to help debug

  • Understand performance implication of Gameplay systems & algorithms and how to improve.

  • Experience creating detailed technical documentation

  • Stay informed about relevant technology trends and developments, principles, and solutions.
