Join us as a Research Scientist on our Office of the CTO (Applied Research) team in Cork, Ireland to do the best work of your career and make a profound social impact.

What you'll achieve

As a Research Scientist, you will contribute to cutting-edge research across AI-enabled systems, distributed infrastructure, networking, systems security, and next-generation computing. For this role, you will be dedicated to AEGIS (Adaptive Grid-Interactive Edge Datacenter Fleets), a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network focused on developing secure, energy-efficient, and carbon-aware edge datacenter infrastructures. You will work alongside Dell researchers, engineers, and leading academic partners to translate research ideas into prototypes, publications, technical insights, and strategic recommendations.

Alongside your industrial research role, you will be enrolled in a structured PhD programme at Imperial College London, benefiting from joint academic and industry supervision. This position is ideal for an ambitious early-career researcher who combines strong analytical thinking with hands-on engineering skills, enjoys turning research questions into experiments and prototypes, and is motivated to develop expertise at the intersection of systems security, sustainable computing, and edge infrastructure.

AEGIS Research Focus: Co-optimising security, performance, energy consumption, and carbon efficiency in multi-tenant edge datacenters through isolation analysis, machine-readable security policies, and intelligent workload scheduling.

Why This Role Is Unique:

  • Join Dell Technologies as a full-time Research Scientist with a competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Complete a fully integrated 36-month PhD programme with Imperial College London while working on real-world industrial research challenges.
  • Participate in AEGIS training events, European collaborations, and international secondments at Imperial College London and Technische Universität Berlin.
  • Work under joint supervision from leading researchers and contribute to prototypes, publications, project deliverables, demonstrations, and strategic technology initiatives.

You will:

  • Conduct research and develop experimental prototypes focused on secure, sustainable, and multi-tenant edge datacenter environments.
  • Design and evaluate approaches for workload scheduling, security isolation, and resource optimization across distributed infrastructure platforms.
  • Develop software prototypes and conduct experimental analysis using modern research and engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with internal and external research partners to publish findings, contribute to project deliverables, and support strategic technology initiatives.
  • Present research outcomes to technical, academic, and business stakeholders while participating in international research collaborations and training activities.
