Job Description
The Molasses Flood is seeking a Senior to Principal Gameplay Engineer to contribute to the development of our latest project, a new multiplayer title set within the world of The Witcher. This Engineer will work closely with content teams to create and implement gameplay systems that will bring the game world to life, with a focus on areas such as inventory, abilities, contracts, crafting, combat encounters, dynamic world interactions, and more. Our ideal candidate has deep experience working across disciplines to design these systems, is a skilled communicator, and is a self driven problem solver.
The person in this role will report to the Lead Gameplay Engineer. This role could also be performed remotely within the continental US and Canada, and according to US East coast core hours. Benefits and salary available vary by country. OR this role may be performed per our hybrid work model in the greater Boston area (Tues/Thurs in our office and Mon/Wed/Fri work from home), with relocation assistance available.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and implement systems in engine in a multiplayer environment, using C++ and Blueprints
Build developer-friendly, easy-to-use, stable systems that allow design and narrative teams to rapidly build & iterate on content.
Ensure game performance standards across areas of system ownership for all target platforms.
Follow the code quality standards set by the team.
Collaborate with everyone on the team and across disciplines in achieving the overall vision of the game.
Solicit and incorporate feedback from team members regarding existing systems.
Mentor more junior members of the engineering team.
Qualifications
Proven success in creating compelling and innovative 3Cs systems in 3rd person, multiplayer games.
Strong understanding of core 3C concepts such as camera behaviors, state machines, character movement systems, animations, and controls accessibility.
Extensive knowledge of current game titles, as well as movies and other visual arts, to use as reference for crafting and communicating original ideas.
The ability to communicate fluently with engineering, art, narrative and production.
Candidates must have a US work permit or citizenship, or Canadian citizenship.
Curiosity, kindness, and a positive and professional can-do attitude.
NICE TO HAVES:
Unreal Engine 5 experience
The expected annual salary range for this position is $165,000 - $220,000 USD, negotiable, for US hires. Salary offered will be based upon a number of factors, including but not limited to: skill set, years and quality of experience, and suitability for the role.
