Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented and experienced game designer for the World of Warcraft team. This position will involve the creative design and technical implementation of quest and narrative content. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in game design, a strong aptitude for critical thinking and analysis, outstanding people skills, boundless creativity, a strong visual aesthetic, and a longstanding passion for playing games.

This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The home studio for this role is in Irvine, CA.

What you bring to the table

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Create quests and related content that express World of Warcraft’s epic stories through fun and engaging gameplay.

  • Collaborate with WoW’s other discipline teams to create a cohesive game experience.

  • Partner with your lead, peers, QA, and producers to plan, implement, document, and test features.

  • Contribute to and participate in our culture of inclusion and diversity.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Content creation experience. Ideally, someone who has creatively owned complete implementations from concept to delivery.

  • Strong writing and character development skills.

  • Able to work creatively in a busy team environment.

  • Portfolio demonstrating equivalent experience OR a minimum of three years of experience working in design pipelines for live games.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills when working with a wide variety of individuals and perspectives.

  • Ability to provide and receive feedback gracefully in a highly collaborative and iterative environment.

  • Passion for playing computer games.

Extra Points

  • Experience as a developer of multiplayer content in an MMO or RPG environment

  • Experience managing, and/or mentoring others

  • Experience playing World of Warcraft

  • Lore experience with World of Warcraft characters and story

  • Experience creating worlds, maps and stories in roleplaying games, either live action or pen and paper campaigns

  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Lua or Python or experience writing add-ons for WoW

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $29.81 - $55.14 Hourly. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
