Hello! We’re a small Edinburgh-based company who've worked on a wide range of projects, from creating Dungeon Golf and Dead End Job, to helping other indies bring games like Yes, Your Grace, John Wick Hex, Lair of the Clockwork God, and The Solitaire Conspiracy to console.

The team is now in the early stages of development for our next few original games, as well as helping out other studios with their development needs.

We're also well funded by Chroma Ventures and because of that we can work with a long term plan and a vision of how we want to support and grow our titles.

It's a very exciting time to join Ant Workshop, so come and be a part of a lovely team making fun games!

We’re looking for a Generalist Artist. As we work across multiple projects at once we'll need you to do a little bit of everything - 3d, 2d, UI design, animation, concept, and mood boards. Oh my! You'll work with the rest of our creative team to visualise the art direction for our games at a prototype stage, and then work in our small art team to create the required assets (and potentially guide and feedback to external freelancers to help them deliver any that can't be made in-house). For co-dev projects you'll need to match the style of the external art team as you work with them to deliver their vision.

This is a full time permanent role based in Edinburgh, UK. We offer hybrid working, as long as you can commit to a few days a week in our physical office.

We expect to pay the successful hire around £35,000pa, depending on experience.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a minimum of 4 years of industry experience.

  • Has experience making a variety of art assets for commercially released titles.

  • Is self motivated and able to organise their own time.

  • Loves working on a wide range of projects.

  • Can communicate well in English, both written and verbally, and give clear direction and feedback.

  • Will identify development risks, shout about them, and create plans to avoid or mitigate them.

  • We don't have a house "style" but we do skew more towards abstract family friendly cartoony nonsense, so if your portfolio is photo-realistic FPS assets or manga babes in too-small bikinis, we might not be a good fit for each other.

What we offer

As a small indie company we can’t offer a load of flashy benefits, but we are extremely flexible with work hours to fit around your needs, such as for childcare provision and other home life stuff (need compressed hours? Not a problem), and have an above-average 35 days of holiday.

Ant Workshop is roughly 1/3rd non-male. This is a friendly, collaborative company. We'll value you and your work as a key part of our small team, and you’ll have the opportunity for a lot of creative input. We will be transparent with you about what the company's doing and why. In the 2022 GamesIndustry.biz UK Best Places To Work Awards we scored 96% in employee satisfaction!
