FromSoftware apologizes after Elden Ring: Nightreign's network test suffers from server issues

The first network test for Elden Ring: Nightreign has officially concluded, but things have not gone smoothly with reports of various server congestion and connection issues.

The details:

  • As announced at Nightreign's reveal in December, FromSoft is conducting a series of network tests for the co-op spin-off, which are open to those who registered via its website. As the name implies, the tests focus on stress testing the game's servers, as this is the developer's first high-profile multiplayer-focused release, prompting Bandai Namco to make an effort to avoid as many issues as possible at full launch.

  • However, the initial test has not gone smoothly, with so many players attempting to access Nightreign that the servers were unable to function. This resulted in the game undergoing maintenance just an hour after the start of the test, which was only three hours long. This was followed by a complete server restart, but players were still unable to advance beyond the title screen.

  • Unfortunately, FromSoft confirmed that, despite the server issues, the test still concluded at the scheduled time. In a post to its X support account, the studio apologized to players for the inconvenience, but added that it may conduct additional tests today as it works to resolve the network issues.

  • More network tests are scheduled for the weekend, with multiple three-hour slots giving players access to a pre-release build before its May 30 launch. The test includes four of the game's eight unique characters, as well as a selection of bosses, some of which are from previous Souls games.
