Zynga is looking for a QA Engineer to join the Helsinki Studio and be part of our live operations team. The role offers an opportunity to work with a very senior team to work on the Farmville 3 game. As QA Engineer you will support the live ops team in rapid delivery of critical improvements to your game. You will balance delivering results with caring for the needs of your team. You will build, maintain and share a body of expertise concerning all aspects of the project, helping your colleagues towards a deeper understanding of the systems and concepts they are testing.

JOB PURPOSE:

As QA Engineer you will primarily work with the live operations team, providing testing and quality support for critical releases and updates. You will help design and drive execution of the QA plan, working closely with the QA Manager to formulate the best approach. You will provide hands on technical and practical QA know-how for the live team and advise the Manager so they can make informed decisions. You will design and execute challenging and technical tests. You can also play a part across the organisation working with experts in other teams to develop QA excellence and promote good practice across the organisation.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical/Functional

  • Become the QA expert for the Project’s live operations team
  • Be hands-on in execution of test activities and ensure defects are appropriately communicated. This will include taking on features and tests which are technically or practically challenging
  • Actively participate in requirement and design reviews of upcoming releases, hotfixes and other updates, communicating what is expected from QA to deliver on said features
  • Proactively drive tooling support to empower the test team and support live operations
  • Create and maintain test suites and cases, including generating bespoke test plans and identifying opportunities for test optimisation
  • Identify and present opportunities for process improvements within QA and the development team at large
  • Influence meaningful QA metrics that enable the QA Manager to make decisions that improve product quality

Discipline Leadership

  • Be a strong voice for QA in planning sessions and meetings
  • Communicate and/or escalate critical issues and challenges encountered during test execution within the QA and live teams, ensuring the QA Manager and other team members are kept up to date
  • Input towards and influence project-level decisions, best practices and test strategy, proactively challenging conventional wisdom where you see alternatives
  • Coordinate with off-shore QA resources, monitoring deliverables and helping to develop and grow the team’s capabilities

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Strong understandings of QA processes, live ops, testing terminology and game development, particularly Agile practices and concepts
  • Experience in supporting live operations
  • Experience testing in an embedded environment and developing innovative solutions to challenges
  • Good inter-personal skills and the ability to work with a variety of individuals
  • Experience generating simple test tools e.g. scripts, matrices, bespoke test scripts
  • Grasp of technical challenges for mobile games QA, e.g. hardware & device fragmentation, server/client architectures, metadata & data versioning, asset systems, metrics & analytics, payments, social features, A/B testing, logging solutions, etc
  • Good quality of reporting and presentation; understanding of key QA metrics to measure success
  • Experience in passing on skills, e.g. teaching, mentoring, demonstrations, constructive feedback during reviews, documentation etc

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Experience working with outsource teams
  • Familiarity with Unity
  • Experience identifying development process problems and proposing solutions
