Overview

Bethesda.net is a central service group focused on developing the publishing platform, product and data security, and hosting. We provide a wide variety of features that support our game studios, publishing teams, and players. We work with public cloud providers as well as maintaining a few collocated and on-prem datacenters. The department consists of a cross functional group including network engineers, systems engineers, security engineers, and software developers. Our focus is on providing well engineered and customer centric solutions.

The Bethesda.net team is seeking a director with strong technical skills for our hosting and operations team. You will work with game studios and publishing teams to establish hosting and operations strategies as well as manage and support your team. You will need experience cloud hosted solutions, collocated datacenters, and systems that operate at scale 24/7

Responsibilities

  • Align multiple business groups on a centralized hosting strategy
  • Provide customer centric solutions to game studios
  • Establish and execute on strategies to improve infrastructure management
  • Work directly with game studios to implement and improve management of infrastructure
  • Establish a cloud center of excellence
  • Manage and provide technical leadership to a public and private cloud hosting team
  • Ensure technical solutions align with the overall engineering direction and strategy
  • Provide professional growth opportunities and guidance to engineers on the team
  • Participate in strategic planning to establish a long-term technical roadmap
  • Help establish a culture of ownership, customer empathy, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of experience managing and growing an engineering team
  • Experience building alignment with diverse internal customers
  • Deep knowledge of cloud best practices and capabilities (AWS preferred)
  • Experience operating and/or migrating a private cloud data center
  • Experience with software development
  • Pragmatic approach to providing technical solutions that are customer centric and solve business needs
  • Experience working with teams that blend in-house and contracted engineers
  • Excellent written and verbal skills

  • Experience with online games
  • Experience with microservices and micro-frontends
  • Experience operating online systems at high scale
  • Experience with cloud migration and multi-cloud environment
