At ZA/UM, we are committed to creating art that defies convention and transforms the gaming landscape. Our fidelity to this cause drives us to create genre-defining RPGs that challenge societal norms, blending intellectual curiosity with radical new ideas.
As comrades, we collaborate deeply, ensuring that every voice is heard and every perspective considered. We're not just making games; we're making meaning—work that reflects the human condition, sparks new ideas, and offers players an experience that lingers long after the screen fades. We're searching for a Marketing Director who shares this vision and can help bring it to life.
We don’t rely on massive ad spend or traditional marketing playbooks. Instead, we trust in the power of an authentic, passionate community. We’re seeking a marketing leader who understands this and can craft a marketing strategy focused on organic growth, buzz, and deep player engagement. Your approach will be innovative, leveraging the game's unique strengths to amplify its presence—without leaning on heavy paid advertising.
As our Marketing Director, you’ll have the chance to shape the future of our studio’s upcoming titles, drive engagement, and ensure our next game builds the same passionate fanbase as Disco Elysium. You will head up marketing strategy, from pre-launch through growth, and focus on creating authentic, impactful campaigns that resonate with players and push cultural boundaries.
Responsibilities:
Head up the marketing strategy for ZA/UM’s next title, from concept to launch to post-launch growth, focusing on community-driven engagement and organic word-of-mouth.
Design and execute campaigns that connect deeply with global players, turning fans into advocates and inspiring long-term commitment to our games.
Leverage non-traditional marketing tactics—storytelling, influencers, social media engagement, events, and content creation—over large-scale paid advertising. We seek fearless ideas that push limits and take risks, knowing the team will navigate the outcomes together.
Collaborate closely with our community to ensure their voices and creativity are central to marketing efforts.
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally, ensuring alignment with studio leadership and development teams on key marketing initiatives.
Focus on data-driven iteration, using key player and business metrics to adjust and refine campaigns for maximum impact.
Inspire and support a lean team of marketers (internal or external), driving them to experiment and think outside the box. More guerilla than gorilla.
Requirements:
Proven success in product marketing or community-driven marketing within a game studio or creative entertainment setting, ideally with experience in launching innovative independent titles.
Passion for games and a deep understanding of what resonates with gaming communities, particularly for RPGs or story-rich games.
Creative thinker with experience developing “out of box” campaigns that thrive on word-of-mouth, community engagement, and cultural relevance.
Hands-on experience with the full lifecycle of a game’s marketing strategy—from announce to launch to critical, ongoing community building. At the same time understanding the marketing strategies of other cultural and entertainment industries
Strong understanding of organic and opinion leader marketing, social media strategies, and content-driven campaigns.
A collaborative leader who can motivate teams, both internal and external, while also working closely with other studio leaders.
Experience managing budgets effectively, focusing on high-impact, low-cost strategies, and investing in assets that resonate with communities.
We Offer:
Competitive salary.
Employee Share Option Plan (ESOP) – an opportunity to own a part of the company and share in its growth
Excellent career development opportunities in a rapidly growing company.
Support from more experienced colleagues.
The chance to work with some of the most exciting people in the video game industry.
Flexible work model - the ability to work fully remotely, or hybrid from the office, with occasional required in-person meetings.
Medical and dental cover.
Christmas closure.
