At Wizards of the Coast, we connect people around the world through play and imagination. From our genre defining games like Magic: The Gathering® and Dungeons & Dragons® to our growing multiverse, we continue to innovate and build new ways to foster friendship and connection. That's where you come in!

Are you an accomplished interactive storyteller who is excited about building worlds for kids and the kid in all of us?

Wizards of the Coast is looking for an experienced Principal Narrative Designer to join our newly formed kids games studio and help us craft the next big kids gaming and entertainment IP. Reporting to the VP of Creative of the Wizards Kids Studio, we will initially work as a small strike team as we iterate on and define our vision. We'll explore treatments of existing Wizards/Hasbro brands in addition to completely new ideas to entertain a new generation of gamers. Then you'll work with a diverse team of game developers to bring our shared vision to life, and work with partners as we look to expand this world into other media. Share your passion for crafting engaging story worlds and build the future of kids entertainment!

The Narrative Lead will be a key part of developing the world and tone of our new franchise.

What You'll Do:

  • Work with the team to brainstorm and craft the narrative vision for kid-friendly IP, collaborating with peers to cultivate awesomeness and business impact across game, linear entertainment, and merchandizing
  • Contribute to end-to-end game story execution, from concept through finished product, helping determine tools, schedules, and processes
  • Lead by example and level up the team with your ideas, feedback, and broad knowledge of narrative design, character creation, world building, tone, dialog, and other storytelling tools.
  • Work with other disciplines to ensure the story is immersive and integrated into the overall game experience.
  • Build positive relationships with internal teams and external partners by seeking shared success
  • Lead long-term relationships with internal teams and external partners, consistently raising the quality bar for WOTC titles.
  • Lead and mentor a full spectrum of narrative designers and writers, across multiple experience levels.

What You'll Bring:

  • Extensive narrative design experience in video games, ideally with significant experience making games for tweens and/or family audiences. Multiple shipped titles: 5+ years required, 7+ years preferred
  • Proven success building worlds, stories, and story mechanics that players love and believe in
  • Comfortable adapting between different writing styles and tones and working independently or as part of the design team. Ability to write with humor that hits various demographics a must.
  • Outstanding communication, diplomacy, and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrable knowledge of game mechanics and an understanding of how to communicate story without words
  • In-depth industry knowledge of standard methodologies and emerging technologies relevant to narrative design
  • Detailed understanding of all aspects of narrative development process
  • Experience writing brand bibles, recording scripts, and story presentations
  • Ideally will have written professionally for other entertainment media, such as television, books, or film
  • Willingness to travel in a safe, post-vaccine world
