At Wizards of the Coast, we connect people around the world through play and imagination. From our genre defining games like Magic: The Gathering® and Dungeons & Dragons® to our growing multiverse, we continue to innovate and build new ways to foster friendship and connection. That’s where you come in!
The Magic TCG Studio is responsible for building the entire Magic TCG experience -- the card, game, and product design; the worldbuilding and art; the editing and packaging; and much of the production and logistics -- all developed here within the studio.
We’re looking for an exceptional Director of Creative Production to help us reach new heights during the most exciting time to join the Magic TCG team in its 25+ year history.
We have been growing by leaps and bounds over the last two years, and we need help managing and shaping processes and production capacity. In the short-term, you will be "rolling-up your sleeves" to work in the details and day-to-day product development. In the long-term there’s the potential of helping to define the future of the studio and a game that has sold over 27 billion cards worldwide.
If you love being part of a growing success, with constant new challenges and opportunities...
If you love working with vibrant, forward-thinking, creative people, including some of the best at their craft…
If you love working with a wide diversity of people, with different perspectives, backgrounds, and skills…
If you love creating games, entertainment, or building communities formed around shared passions…
If you love harnessing chaos and complexity and using that energy to produce clarity and purpose and order…
Then we would love to talk with you!
What you'll do
- Team and dotted-line management. Manage a group of producers and coordinate with producers embedded in different creative groups.
- Product portfolio production. Oversee production for a portfolio of 50+ products, primarily focused on scheduling and handoffs between different groups, with special focus on the last ~nine months of art pipeline tasks prior to handoff to printing production.
- Ensure that each macro schedule for every product is being set up correctly and accurately, and changes/improvements are propagated through each team’s production plan.
- Analyze the overlap of all product schedules and work with managers and producers across the studio (and in downstream operations groups) to minimize risk and solve for capacity/throughput issues.
- Capacity Planning. Work with managers and producers to forecast capacity for budget planning and long-term resourcing strategy across the entire studio.
- Manage the central nervous system. Collaborate to assess and evolve current tools/systems/processes across the studio.
- Build toward the future. Work with studio leadership to develop production tools/structures/methodologies for where we’re going in the next 3-5 years, while still executing toward today.
What you'll bring
- Proven experience as a senior or lead producer, ideally in either a gaming, entertainment, CPG, or creative environment.
- Comfort and confidence with switching focus between the details, specifics, and day-to-day; and looking at the big picture and envisioning the farther future. Over time the focus of the position will shift more toward the bigger picture.
- Flexible and comfortable navigating an environment of rapid change and growth.
- You enjoy being around passionate, creative people.
- You enjoy creating diverse teams and psychologically safe environments for all your people.
- You love communicating, listening, and solving complex and constantly evolving problems and opportunities.
In the Wizards TCG Studio (Studio X), we believe diversity of experience is fundamental to creating accessible and fun gaming experiences for *all* of our players. We encourage everyone to consider being a part of our team.
