Are you an all-around illustration generalist and designer, with a strong understanding of illustrative methods for print, and a deep engagement in fantasy art / pop culture?

Our Magic: The Gathering TCG Studio is looking for a 2D Illustration Designer to drive innovative visual asset creation for Magic packaging. This key role in the Packaging and Product Team collaborates with Graphic Designers and Art Directors to support print marketing for a product that brings happiness to millions of Magic fans.

What you'll do:

  • Craft original concepts, including extrapolating ideas from visual and written creative briefs.
  • Sketch roughs to prove out concepts and communicate art direction.
  • Own the thumbnailing process for each release's concept; keeping the full view of the line up-to-date as the release evolves.
  • Create visual designs and illustrations for packaging/branding/other game marketing materials, while aligning to brand style guides.
  • Support Art Directors and other creative team members in executing a variety of graphic design styles.

What you’ll bring:

  • 3+ yrs of commercial illustration experience, ideally in a AAA game environment.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing your ability to craft thumbnails, sketches, roughs, and finished color illustrations of logos, typography, environments, characters, and spell effects for use in print.
  • Understanding of Magic: The Gathering as both a game and a brand.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Effectively work and connect with diverse groups of people.
  • You eagerly embrace challenges head-on and have the confidence to propose creative solutions.
  • Take direction well and work within scope constraints.
  • Strong sense of accountability, responsibility, and pride.
  • Strong communication skills and are comfortable giving and receiving feedback.
  • Excellent skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
