WildBrain is looking for Surface Artists, 3D to join our exciting new animated Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic Prime, set to premiere worldwide in 2022.

This 24-episode animated adventure for kids, families, and long-time fans draws upon the keystones of the brand and features the “Blue Blur” of video game fame in a high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption.

This feature quality episodic series will deliver the visually captivating, binge-worthy story that Sonic fans new and old are sure to love. We are on the hunt to find passionate and talented folks to join this team and help us really bring the blue blur to life!

As a Surface Artist, you have experience in surfacing and texturing in Substance. You create characters, props and set models that accurately represent the artistic goals and story concepts of the production.

These roles are set to begin in Spring 2021.

We are currently working virtually because of the Covid-19 pandemic. During this time our hiring teams are ready to support interviews via video conferencing, and we are enabling artists to work from home until the studio can reopen. We’d love to hear from you! #stayhomestaysafe!

Responsibilities:

  • Excellent visual skills and attention to detail
  • Uphold the art direction defined by the Art Director and Surfacing Lead
  • Interpret and implement notes and feedback from directors and supervisors in a timely and qualitative manner
  • Communicate with Supervisor and CG Supervisor on concerns ahead of time
  • Meet production deadlines and maintain regular communication with the production team
  • Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years experience in animation, film or games lookdev/surfacing/modeling
  • Knowledge in Substance Painter
  • Experience with UV maping, texture layout and digital painting skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Computer Animation, or other relevant area of study and/or equivalent job experience
  • Highly motivated, pro-active, with a solid work ethic and positive attitude
  • Practice in attentive and active listening
  • Ability to make decisions in a timely manner
  • Ability to accept accountability for own actions
  • Ability to share information, methodologies and ideas with others
  • Ability to deliver work on time and meet set performance objectives
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills

Bonus:

  • Experience in Mudbox or Z brush is a benefit
  • Knowledge of various renderers like Vray, Renderman or Arnold is an asset
  • Substance Designer, Alchemist knowledge would be an asset
  • Katana knowledge a bonus
  • Nuke knowledge a bonus
