WildBrain Studios is looking for a Modeling Supervisor to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing workflows, managing the modelling team, and training artists. In addition, you will collaborate with other Supervisors and Directors to ensure that modeling assets are passed across departments with efficiency, while meeting the creative and scheduling requirements of the production.

  • Lead and oversee the daily activities of the modelling department
  • Train and mentor the modelling team on an ongoing basis both technically and creatively
  • Provide detailed direction to the modelling team and contribute to their growth and development by understanding their needs, interests, strengths and weaknesses
  • Establish efficient modelling techniques, topology, naming and other conventions to optimize asset creation process
  • Assist in guiding artists’ overall professional development by providing constructive criticism, wisdom, guidance, and feedback
  • Set goals for others that can be achieved using available resources within projected timelines
  • Prioritize and assign modelling tasks to the modelling team ensuring that assets are created on time and on budget
  • Create and update documentation for workflows and guidelines
  • Foster and enable communication and collaboration across departments
  • Collaborate with the pipeline team, designers, rigging and surfacing artists to achieve both creative and technical goals within scheduled time frames
  • Work closely with the rigging team to establish the best topology and conventions for both modeling and rigging needs
  • Work closely with the CG Supervisor, Show TD, and pipeline to establish and develop modeling tools and process before, and during production
  • Work collaboratively with the Art Director and design team
  • Anticipate, communicate, and troubleshoot any creative or technical issues with assistance from key stakeholders
  • Assist the HR and Talent Acquisition departments in the development of job descriptions, sourcing of candidates as well as the candidate selection process

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of modelling experience for film or television
  • 1+ years as a Senior, Lead or Supervising Modeller
  • High proficiency in Maya is a must
  • Experience working with the Unreal Engine is a must
  • Experience with Zbrush, Modo or similar sculpting programs is required
  • Substance Painter, Substance Designer Experience is a Must
  • Experience in creation of all asset types including characters, environments, vehicles and props is required
  • Excellent understanding of the fundamentals of organic and hard body modeling
  • Excellent understanding of topology, for both organic and non-organic models
  • Experience with character blend shape creation is a must
  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills
  • Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify strengths and weakness of modeling team
  • Ability to remain flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of production
  • Ability to set priorities for yourself and others, as well as manage the progress of work
  • Proactive work ethic, capable problem solver with the ability to implement solutions
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to think creatively to resolve technical challenges
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner
  • Ability to adapt to multiple show styles
  • Must be open to direction and able to embrace change

Bonus:

  • Experience using Unreal in a production environment.
  • Game trailer or equivalent experience
