Lead Level Artist

Overview

Virtuos is looking for highly motivated and experienced level artists with a proven record of accomplishment for creating levels for AAA productions. Candidates should be well versed in ‘end to end’ production with focus on pre-production and creativity to finalizing and completion. A strong knowledge of all areas of level creation with a complete comprehension of, but not limited to gameplay, composition, spatial relationships, natural and manmade storytelling, surfacing and materials, design and level dressing. They should be experienced with working within strict specifications, and have a knowledge of efficient pipelines and optimization best practices and tools.

Candidates should have excellent soft skills and can comprehend requirements for both the technical and the aesthetic styling of an environment, while communicating these needs to their team. Working collaboratively with Art Directors and Producers in preproduction to completion, with a single goal and direction to achieve the highest quality within any given request.

Responsibilities:

  • Review client’s package with Art Director identifying discussion points and enquiries
  • Participate in client meetings as and when required and proactively raise discussion points
  • Ensure level artists understand art requirements and specific needs for project
  • Cooperate with Art Director and Producer for composition of the team and project needs
  • Work with Producers on planning and road maps for project deliveries
  • Based on briefing ensure team are trained and capable for production
  • Continuously review and evaluate level production raising concerns and risks
  • Ensure creativity and level production quality with daily artist reviews
  • Ensure deliverables are met in timely manner for Art Director review
  • Comprehend and relay client’s requests and feedback clearly to artists
  • Maintain technical relevance by keeping up to date with current trends and technology
  • Excellent time management skills and able to assist Producers
  • Mentoring and coaching their teams

Skills:

  • Excellent art skills with strong sense in spatial design, composition, surfacing and aesthetic
  • Extremely good in the current AAA asset production pipelines, materials
  • Strong abilities in major software such as Substance, Zbrush, Blender, Maya , Max
  • Excellent knowledge of one or more game engines such as UE4, UNITY, CRYENGINE
  • Experience working with and manipulating scan data
  • Great interpersonal skills working well within large teams
  • Proactive and enquiring nature with excellent communication skills.
  • Technically very proficient, with strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to take up new tech quickly and effectively
  • Strong ability for attention to detailing

Qualifications:

  • Three or more published games in a Level Artist role
  • Minimum of 6+ years full-cycle console game experience
  • Portfolio demonstrating and describing responsibilities for portfolio pieces
  • A passion for making great games
