Vicarious Visions is seeking a Senior Character Armor and Gear Artist for the Diablo Franchise!

We are seeking an exceptionally skilled and passionate Senior Artist with a focus on Armor and Gear creation, for the Diablo team. As part of the gear team you will work with concept artists, animators, designers and engineers to create the epic loot and fantastical armor sets of the Diablo universe. The ideal candidate understands that character work does not end in ZBrush, and can texture, model and optimize just as well as they can sculpt. Additional responsibilities involve giving feedback and critique to our partners and more junior artists on quality bar and pipeline preparation. We hire artists that collaborate well with equally passionate developers and share our love for games.

Responsibilities

  • Sculpt detailed high-poly models and create efficient low-poly meshes for armor and weapons in collaboration with creative direction, design and engineering
  • Create high quality textures and author materials
  • Ensure that character art supports gameplay and performance
  • Give notes and review other work from our internal team and partners for quality bar and compatibility with existing pipelines
  • Help develop character art best practices and mentor others as needed

Requirements

  • 6+ years game development experience and at least one shipped AAA PC or console game as a 3D artist, especially with focus on Character customization and loot pipelines
  • Experience creating real time characters/gear and items using Maya, ZBrush, Marvelous Designer, Substance Painter and Photoshop (or equivalent 3D and 2D programs)
  • Exceptional understanding of color theory, values, form, shape language and silhouette
  • An aesthetic eye for hard surface armor components, costuming and visual design
  • Strong knowledge of medieval weapon and armor design
  • Solid understanding of human and creature anatomy,
  • Demonstrated proficiency with current techniques and PBR workflows
  • Self-motivated, humble, excellent communications skills, and a legendary team-player attitude

Pluses

  • Solid foundation in the traditional arts, including but not limited to figure drawing, illustration and conceptual design
  • Proficiency with Substance Designer
  • Basic understanding of rigging, animation, and deformation
  • Passion for all things games, Blizzard, and Diablo!
