USC’s School of Cinematic Arts is seeking a Computer Consultant Specialist to join its Creative Technology team. The School of Cinematic Arts is the premiere school for the study of cinematic arts and provides instruction in production, post production, game design and development, interactive media, animation, writing, producing and cinema studies. The facilities include state-of-the-art editing labs, interactive studios, animation labs, visual effects labs, scoring and mixing stages, film stages, and theatres, including a 55-seat IMAX theatre.

The Computer Consultant Specialist will play a key role in supporting the game design and development pipeline for the Interactive Media & Games Division (IMGD).

A DevOps engineering skillset is highly desired – with experience in both software development as well as the underlying servers and network used in the game industry. The successful candidate should have hands-on experience in game development, software life-cycle management, pipeline development, optimization and/or DevOps engineering. Strong systems design skills and a proven ability to keep things simple and efficient in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment are key.

The ideal candidate should have experience in the following areas:

Game Design and Development Support

  • Experience designing and supporting a game development pipeline and building tools for developers and game designers
  • Experience with Unity/C#, Unreal/C++ and other game engines
  • Experience with game deployment on multiple platforms including Console, PC, iOS and Android
  • Experience with asset optimization for entertainment pipelines
  • Experience with game usability testing systems such as Noldus

Software Development Support

  • Programming skills including C++, C#, powershell, batch script, python, Visual Basic, Java, Java Script, HTML/CSS
  • Experience supporting multiple programming languages, frameworks and IDEs
  • Experience managing version control and continuous integration systems such as Perforce, Git, Jenkins, Travis, Teamcity
  • Experience with SCM, software life-cycles, and automated build and test systems

Systems Engineering

  • Ability to maintain software and hardware licensing
  • Ability to spec-out and deploy multi-player game servers, game networks, version control servers, cloud compute systems
  • Experienced with VMware, VSphere
  • Knowledgeable with SQL database administration
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and web services such as SOAP, REST, AJAX

Emerging Technology Support

  • Experience supporting advanced entertainment technologies such as AR/VR/Mixed Reality (HTC Vive, Oculus, Jaunt, Hololens), motion capture, green screen, visual effects, animation
  • Experience supporting advanced uses of game engine technology such as integration with Arduino, audio processing, data processing, interactive installations and visual effects rendering
  • Experience in multiple aspects of the game industry from board games to AAA titles to eSports.

This position will have the exciting opportunity to help develop and support the games and interactive pipeline at the school and will contribute to pipeline development for other Cinematic Arts divisions. Other important skills include experience maintaining strong vendor relationships and the ability to create and maintain documentation.
