WHAT’S THE JOB?

Uplift Games is the studio behind Adopt Me, the #1 game on the Roblox platform (25+ billion visits, 1.92 million record CCU) all about adopting cute pets. We’re looking for an experienced Head of Engineering to lead and scale our Engineering team from 6 to 16+. In this role, you will line manage, mentor, and recruit engineers and later engineering managers as the team grows. Working directly with our technical co-founder and Co-CEO, you’ll develop our engineering roadmap and strategy and have the opportunity to create an outsized impact on many millions of players while operating in a small studio where every person plays a major role.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Develop our engineering roadmap and strategy in collaboration with our leadership team.
  • Line manage and mentor our engineering team.
  • Identify, recruit, and onboard a diverse and talented team of engineers.
  • Learn Roblox, understanding the nuances of the platform and Roblox development workflows.
  • Champion best practices and technical excellence. Introduce smart tools, techniques, processes, and software patterns to minimize debt / inefficiency and to maximize impact.
  • Apply your expertise to guide your team through difficult engineering challenges. When it makes sense, write code alongside your team to build context and to support your team’s education.

YOUR BACKGROUND

These are the things candidates really should have but can make up for in other areas. If you’re missing one or two, consider applying anyway, especially if you belong to an marginalized group.

  • 8+ years experience in an engineering role, with a strong emphasis on Games.
  • 4+ years experience in a lead / manager role, with a preference for engineering management.
  • Experience building and scaling an engineering team.
  • Strong proficiency in programming, software patterns, software principles, software architecture.
  • Supplemental skills key for 3D game development: math (especially vector math), creativity, solid UX intuition, experience with any game engine, etc.
  • A proven track record of learning new technologies / engines very quickly.

BONUS POINTS

These are things that can improve your candidacy, but none of these are necessary to apply

  • Experience with Roblox, the Roblox Studio IDE or the platform in general.
  • Experience with languages / technologies we use, including Lua, Rust, Node.js, React, Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes.
  • Experience working on large scale live service products, particularly games.
  • Experience working on products for young audiences.

WHAT’S THE COMPENSATION?

When possible, we provide transparent estimated salary ranges to set expectations early and to respect your time.

We recognize, however, that salaries vary within our various remote geographical locations. To give an indication of the salary level for this role, we estimate the annual salary will be as follows for these example locations:

  • Bay Area, CA: $170,000 - $240,000 USD
  • London, UK: £85,000 - £130,000 GBP
  • Dallas, TX: $140,000 - $210,000 USD

Our compensation package is intended to be competitive with your local market and is negotiable.

In addition to salary, you will receive a signing bonus, along with a generously sized cash bonus package (4-year vested RSU-style cash bonus). You’ll also be eligible for our studio-wide annual bonus scheme.
