The Sport Business Management Program at the University of Central Florida is seeking a Director of External Affairs to assist with the administration of non-academic programs and services as the liaison between the sport/entertainment management industry and the DeVos Program. The Director may also be called upon to assist with graduate and undergraduate programs and classes as appropriate.
The Director would be responsible for:
(1) Coordinating internship and job placements.
(2) Coordinating and expanding alumni relations and overseeing the activities of the Alumni Council
(3) Matching our students with appropriate mentors in the industry.
(4) Working with corporations/colleges to create hands-on opportunities for teams of our students to do real, client-based marketing.
(5) Organizing our annual trip to a major sports market in which students spend time with ownership/leaders of the professional sports franchises, college athletic departments and marketing companies.
(6) Developing an international component for the DeVos Program, including an international learning experience.
(7) Organizing the DeVos Distinguished Speaker Series.
(8) Organizing all day “Boot Camps” to cover topics such as Innovation, Esports and Tableaux not in the regular curriculum.
(9) Fostering fundraising and developing opportunities for the DeVos Program.
(10) Maintaining a communications vehicle to keep our National Policy Board, alumni and all others who may be interested in the mission of the DeVos Program, updated on all DeVos activities.
(11) Coordinating a bi-annual alumni reunion/event and annual family weekend.
(12) Assisting with a strategic marketing plan for DeVos Program and playing a key role in public/media relations.
(13) Other duties/projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 8+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive high level experience as a business executive for one or more sport/entertainment organizations (or experience working in collegiate sport for a college or university) and an expansive sport business/entertainment management network that facilitates internship and job placements.
(i) An Ed.D., DBA, or PhD with an emphasis in sport business, sport studies, or a closely related field, and appropriate professional experience in the sport business/entertainment management industry.
(ii) A JD plus appropriate professional experience in the sport business/entertainment management industry.
(iii) A non-terminal master’s degree plus appropriate senior-level executive experience in the sport/business/entertainment management industry.
(iv) A minimum of 10 years experience as a senior-level executive in the sport business/entertainment management industry
