The opportunity

We're hiring a Junior Software Engineer in our Tokyo Office!

This is a great opportunity to grow your skills while supporting Unity users.

In this position, you'll enhance your technical support abilities by solving complex technical challenges, giving you the chance to develop skills in areas like C#, game engine internals, and performance optimization. As Unity frequently releases new versions and features, you'll stay up-to-date with these technologies, ensuring that you can provide the most current knowledge to customers.

You'll also have the opportunity to interact with developers from around the world, enhancing your ability to communicate effectively across cultures and languages. The ability to explain complex technologies clearly and concisely will be especially valuable.

Working closely with internal Unity teams, you'll contribute to product improvements and new feature development, gaining a deeper understanding of the entire development process. This role can also serve as a stepping stone for personal growth, potentially leading to other technical or leadership positions.

Additionally, you'll build strong relationships with customers, establishing trust and long-term partnerships while gathering valuable feedback. You'll also play a role in improving internal tools and documentation, contributing to the overall efficiency of the team.

What you'll be doing

  • Troubleshooting technical issues: We investigate, diagnose and provide appropriate solutions to various technical issues reported by our users. Issues range from script errors, performance optimization, build errors, rendering issues and more.

  • Communicating with customers: You will communicate with users through support tickets, forums, and emails to find out more about their issues and provide advice on how to resolve them. Another important role is to receive user feedback and use it to improve our products and services.

  • Updated documentation and knowledge base: Help users by documenting frequently asked questions and troubleshooting steps and building an internal and external knowledge base.

  • Acquiring new technologies and undergoing technical training: To keep up with new Unity features and upgrades, you will regularly study and maintain and improve your own technical skills. You will also conduct training both inside and outside of the company to support other members and users in improving their technical skills.

  • Performance optimization and best practice suggestions: We provide optimization techniques and best practices to improve the performance of your projects, helping you improve development efficiency.

What we're looking for

  • Deep knowledge of Unity engine and C#: You will need to be familiar with how to use the Unity engine, manipulate game objects, script, and set rendering settings. Programming experience using C# is also important, and you will be required to be able to analyze user code, identify bugs, and optimize it.

  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills: The ability to efficiently investigate technical issues, identify the cause and provide a solution is essential, especially the ability to think logically to flexibly respond to a variety of problems, including build errors and performance issues.

  • Excellent communication skills: You will need the skills to communicate smoothly with customers and in-house developers. It is important to convey technical content in an easy-to-understand manner and to accurately understand and support user problems. Ability to communicate with customers in business-level Japanese and Ability to communicate in English using text-based internal chat tools.

  • Motivation to learn and ability to keep up with technology: Since new versions and features are frequently added to Unity, you must always be willing to continue learning the latest technology. It is important to have the ability to self-learn in order to keep up with new features and respond appropriately to users.

  • Knowledge of 3D graphics and game development: Knowledge of the technologies involved in 3D game development, such as shaders, rendering pipelines, physics engines, and animation, is helpful so that you can provide expert advice when solving users' graphics and performance issues.
