As part of a production design or multidisciplinary team, the technical Game Designer will create and implement complex technical and/or system design elements into the game.

Acting as a technical reference for team members, you will assist, support and advise colleagues whenever necessary. The Technical Game Designer may also be called upon as one of the project’s technical experts on a specific game element.

Responsibilities

  • Master the procedure for creating systems, 3Cs and/or AIs
  • Oversee the implementation of the technical elements of a complete game feature
  • Encourage an iterative and hands-on approach across the design jobs and pipelines
  • Act as a technical expert on the topic and ensure the tools, documents and technical support
  • Determine and disseminate best practices
  • Provide technical coaching for other designers
  • Propose improvements on the different tools and pipelines
  • Ensure cleanliness and stability of the data
  • Quickly find issues using debugging tools

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in game design or equivalent
  • Have shipped at least one console/PC title
  • Excellent technical knowledge of editors (Unreal, Unity,etc.)
  • Good understanding of script languages (Kismet, LUA, etc.)
  • Ability to understand and communicate in technical language
  • Ability to work with pre-established constraints
  • Leadership skills and the ability to work within a team
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to structure one’s own work and that of the team
  • Ability to clearly express ideas (spoken and written)
  • Critical thinking and curiosity
  • User focus
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the video game development process
