Job Description

As a technical designer at Ubi Quebec, part of a design or multidisciplinary production team, you are responsible for creating and implementing complex, technical and/or systemic design elements in the game while ensuring their robustness.

Acting as a technical reference to your team, you help, support and advise your peers in order to achieve the desired level of quality both in terms of design (the what) and technical (the how). You may also be called upon to become the technical expert of the project on a specific element of the game.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and implement, in the game, design elements that are more complex, more abstract, present a certain technical challenge, or have repercussions on the whole game;
  • Responsible for the realization and implementation of the technical elements of a complete feature of the game autonomously by collaborating closely with designers, programmers or other professions;
  • Participate in the optimization and validation of data by ensuring that colleagues comply with the technical standards for their subject of expertise while taking into account budget constraints;
  • Participate in advanced data debugging until the very end of production;
  • Act as a technical reference on a specific subject and, in this context, be in charge (with the approval of the Technical Design Director) of tools, documentation, and technical support as well as the identification and dissemination of best practices;
  • Give periodic feedback to Technical Design Directors, such as suggestions for improving tools and methods, bugs encountered, etc.
  • Participate in testing new features or tools as a user reference before it is deployed to the rest of the team;
  • Perform production tasks within a team as a Game or Level Designer and prototype gameplay features during game design;
  • Perform any other related duties.

Qualifications

What you bring to the team:

  • College education in Level Design or any relevant training;
  • Programming training (an asset);
  • At least 3 years of experience as a level or game designer;
  • At least one game production to your portfolio (an asset);
  • Curious, have the passion to understand how things work;
  • Familiar with the principles of Game-Design and/or Level-Design and/or programming;
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Good adaptability, autonomy and proactivity;
  • Structured, conscientious and efficient;
  • Good ability to express ideas clearly (written and oral);
  • Ability to understand and communicate in technical language;
  • user-oriented;
  • Experience with different machines and/or platforms (an asset);
  • Experience with several 2D/3D creation software (an asset);
  • Experience in programming/scripting (an asset).
