Job Description

As part of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, you will play an instrumental role in bringing to life the beautiful and dangerous world of Pandora. This is a unique opportunity to keep growing your experience in games while working hand in hand with Disney’s creative minds and James Cameron's production company, Lightstorm Entertainment.

As our new Lead Development Tester (f/m/d) at Ubisoft Düsseldorf, you will will manage and develop the local QA team, both from a technical as well as administrative perspective. You will be responsible for team efficiency and content quality. You will be involved in multiple areas of the game development process and ensure outstanding quality of our games by implementing state-of-the-art QA & QC pipeline and workflows and constantly improve the efficiency of our systems. You will guide a team of talented development testers, define objectives and aid them in their career progression. You will also collaborate directly with outside partners and align the QA and QC teams from studios working on the project.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with the production team to understand the overall game vision and design documents

  • Oversee your development test team in testing features (e.g. quest, AI, audio, UI, game engine, online, etc.) and creating test plans

  • Collaborate closely with programmers, artists and designers to ensure quality and stability of feature and game content across multiple platforms

  • Represent the interests and needs of your team during meetings, facilitate decisions to the team and act as local contact for other studios working on the same project

  • Know the game’s story and gameplay (game design documents) and understand the technical/artistic constraints so as to be able to lead/coach the team

  • Implement development testing related processes (Greenlight, Regression, Dashboard, etc.)

  • Meet regularly with your team to track test plans, provide feedback and coaching, discuss progress, manage hiccups, identify risks, define benchmarks, etc.

  • Take ownership of specific tools used by the team and maintain upkeep, updates and documentation

Qualifications

What you bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in development and/or functionality testing in game development and experienced a full development cycle from start to end

  • At least 2+ years of experience in a lead role

  • You can influence people around you in a positive way and motivate a team to deliver best possible results even in stressful phases of development

  • Strong knowledge of bug tracking software (e.g. Jira), test creation software (e.g. TestRail), game engines (e.g. Unity or Unreal), gaming platforms (consoles and PC) and their limitations

  • You are familiar with state-of-the-art software testing principles and methodologies (e.g. ISTQB) and constantly keep an eye out for new best practices and research findings

  • You can derive schedule and priority from a project plan and are not afraid to point out risks, challenge processes and decisions if you have good reason

  • You embrace change and are not afraid of organizing and structuring the work for you and your team in a complex and dynamic project environment

  • You have a problem-solving mindset and are motivated to find resourceful and sustainable solutions

  • Excellent communication skills in verbal and written English

  • Coding or scripting abilities are a plus

  • Experience with automated test systems is a plus

  • Experience with managing project data flows, versioning tools and build systems is a plus
