Job Description

JOB TITLE: LEAD CHARACTER ARTIST.

Note: Final Designation/Level will be decided based on the relevant experience and interview ratings. 

JOB SUMMARY:

As a Lead character artist, you will need to solve a wide range of problems with well-rounded experience across multiple disciplines. You will be working directly and interacting closely with the Art-Director and producers and will act as a bridge between the production and the art team. You will also be responsible on collaboration and provide report to the management and will be conducting the performance reviews for artists and recruiting new talents

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leading the development of high-quality AAA characters.

  • Complete understanding of all current generation production workflows including PBR workflow/Lighting pipeline and shader tools.

  • Managing and prioritizing character art team’s tasks to ensure deliverables are completed on time and to the specifications through regular stand-ups and synchronization meetings to communicate vision and needs with other teams.

  • Ability to work in engine toolsets, defined asset workflows and contribute to overall character department goals and working practices.

  • Work closely with other departments (designers, artists, QA, and technical artists) to ensure art assets are working well and up to the expected quality.

  • Collaborate with the Art/Technical directors to align with the process and translate the expectation to the art team.

  • Provide mentoring, reviews, and feedback to the team in a clear and constructive way.

  • Constantly work on improvement of methodologies, tools and pipelines used.

  • Share knowledge and recommend best practices to reduce efforts, cost and time.

  • Involve in performance evaluation, feedback & development discussion.

QUALIFICATION :

  • A Graduation / Diploma / Degree in Fine-arts/ graphic-design, videogame development or equivalent training.

  • 8+ yrs. of development experience, with at least 2 yrs. as principal/lead artist.

  • Exceptional sculpting abilities in Zbrush and deep knowledge of marvelous designer/cloth sculpting or simulation along with hair and fur subsystem (Xgen, Houdini).

  • Capable of working in other art disciplines (Environment, Animation etc.) and other Engine technologies (Unreal Engine, Unity etc.).

  • Good understanding of human anatomy, Topology & Joint’s functionality.

  • Complete understanding of all current generation production workflows including PBR workflow/Lighting pipeline and shader tools.

  • Ability to work in engine toolsets, defined asset workflows and contribute to overall character department goals and working practices.

  • Monitor the quality of outsourced character assets to ensure technical and artistic integrity.

  • Work closely with other departments, suggest ideas and solutions for making a better game along with documentation.

  • Aesthetic ability to improve details with minimal concept and art direction.

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating game art with processes and techniques used.

NICE TO HAVE :

  • Good knowledge of Houdini.

  • Good sketching and drawing skills.

  • Remarkable organizational skills, a good mentor for team, research oriented & self-driven.

  • English language proficiency (spoken & written).

  • Experience with version control and bug tracking software.

  • Fair knowledge of scripting, tool implementation and deployment.
