Ubisoft Bordeaux
Founded in 2017, Ubisoft Bordeaux works with passion on the biggest AAA titles to deliver the best gaming experiences. Today, the studio is composed of 400 talents from 20 different nationalities, working on licenses such as Assassin's Creed, Beyond Good & Evil 2 and a free to play game, BattleCore Arena. At the same time, the studio has set up a Tech branch which works on all Ubisoft's online services (named Online Services) as well as on the Anvil game engine. Ubisoft Bordeaux is also home to a R&D team, La Forge, which brings together engineers and researchers to work together on prototypes for game production, particularly around AI topics.
Job Description
As a Game Design Intern, you will be assisting the Economy & System Designer on polishing and balancing the Character Progression, Economy, Game Systems and Content of an unannounced AAA project in the works.
Main tasks
Under the supervision of the System Designer:
Produce and maintain system design tools & documents (dynamic spreadsheets, internal tools…)
Tweak and balance game content (stats, loot, AI enemies, etc.) in accordance with Player feedback and User Research findings
Collaborate with the UI / UX Team to maintain and perfect in-game texts such as descriptions, tutorials etc.
Design, implement and debug gameplay content such as item effects and abilities with our internal scripting tools
Things you will learn during this internship
Rational Game Design and System Design methodologies and tools used in a AAA production
Advanced use of Microsoft Excel in the context of a video-game production
Collaborating with an international team across multiple time-zones
Working with Anvil, our internal engine and its scripting tools
Working with JIRA, Confluence in a typical AAA framework
Game Design for modern Open Worlds
Qualifications
Proven experience or education in Game Design and modern Game Design techniques
Experience and affinity with Microsoft Excel – specifically: formulas and automation
Strong documentation skills
Strong communication skills (both oral & written)
Good organizational and rationalization skills, especially for shared Spreadsheet documents
Fluent in English (C1 level minimum)
High proactivity in seeking solutions to problems and communicating with others to solve issues collectively and consistently
Preferred qualifications
Basic knowledge or affinity with VBA
Basic knowledge of any visual scripting tool (e.g. Blueprint)
Appeal towards RPGs (tabletop or digital) or other “crunchy” game systems
Proven experience with handling complex dynamic spreadsheets (to be discussed during interview)
