Our Studio

Ubisoft Toronto is one of the largest development studios within Ubisoft, employing talented developers from around the world. We create worlds and tell stories that grip you, inspire you and challenge you. Since opening in 2010, we have shipped innovative game projects on some of Ubisoft’s biggest brands: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs, For Honor and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.

Most recently, we launched Far Cry 6, the most ambitious Far Cry game to date, featuring the talented Giancarlo Esposito as Anton Castillo. Our studio has also led the development of the newest game in the Watch Dogs franchise – Watch Dogs: Legion (2020), a stand out for its tech and design work, play as anyone gameplay in an open world, and rich and detailed rendition of a future London. Starlink: Battle for Atlas (2018) was Ubisoft Toronto’s first new IP, using technology that seamlessly blended physical and digital gameplay. Splinter Cell Blacklist was the first title released by Ubisoft Toronto in 2013. We have an exciting roadmap of projects for the future and can’t wait to share more details.

Job Description

We’re working on a Splinter Cell remake, assembling a team with passion, drive and respect for the trifocal goggles. This is an opportunity to be part of a treasured franchise, rebuilt on Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine to deliver next-generation visuals and modernized stealth gameplay, while preserving what's at the heart of the Splinter Cell experience.

On being an Engine Programmer at Ubisoft Toronto:

At Ubisoft, developing, optimizing, and maintaining our game engines is an important task to stay at the forefront of technology. As an Engine Programmer, you'll be responsible for maintaining and optimizing the engine of one of our AAA games like For Honor, Rainbow Six, or Assassin's Creed, as well as developing future technologies.

Type of Position: Permanent, full-time; Toronto, Ontario; Hybrid, flexible work environment

The daily life of an Engine Programmer at Ubisoft Toronto:

  • Maintain and optimize the game engine to stay on the cutting edge of technology.
  • Compile and understand the project purpose, identify development needs, and assess technical feasibility.
  • Work with many teams to optimize interaction between various game engine systems.
  • Master low-level systems such as loading/streaming, memory management, and platform-specific systems.
  • Share your knowledge with various studio teams and be a go-to person for programmers.
  • Assess and debug simple and complex performance problems + propose well-adapted optimizations.

What it takes to make it:

  • General understanding of modern game engine architecture
  • Knowledge of different hardware architectures (ex. Intel, AMD, Xbox, PlayStation, etc.)
  • Experience in C++ programming and knowledge of assembly language
  • Solid knowledge of multi-threaded programming and synchronization mechanisms
  • The capacity to evaluate and synthesize existing systems
  • The ability to solve complex problems in an optimal way
  • A degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering (or related training)
  • Skills in debugging complex problems and optimizing memory and performance
  • Attention to detail
  • A collaborative spirit + good communication skills
