Job Description

Reporting into the Senior Communications Manager for Japan, the Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing integrated communications campaigns for their allocated brands, to secure presence and impact across earned media and social media channels. They will be responsible for fostering close relationships with key journalists and content creators, and building great stories, in order to drive conversation, ensure a consistently high share of voice, and deliver strong coverage that engages consumers.

The role involves working across a variety of products, from leading established brands to highly anticipated new IP, and offers an exciting opportunity to join one of the world’s most renowned and innovative videogames companies.

The successful candidate will have relevant experience of communications planning and execution, with expertise in both strategy and hands-on media and content creator relations, within the entertainment, gaming or technology industries. They will have a detailed knowledge of the local social media landscape and broad understanding of the full marketing mix, across paid, earned and owned media channels. Strategic Planning & Market understanding

  • Responsible for planning and development of all PR and influencer marketing campaign elements for allocated products/brands. Understands and considers the role of paid, owned and social media, and works with the local and international brand teams, and with the Communications team, to set the overall planning context and communications strategies for product launches.
  • Builds and delivers first class PR and influencer marketing plans for allocated products/brands, working with local PR agencies to implement campaigns that show innovation and creativity in approach, and deliver excellence in execution, with a focus on the key campaign beats.
  • Illustrates a keen understanding of both the target audience, and the media landscape, and drives innovation and engagement within the local communications approach.

Social Media expertise and Influencers relations

  • Works with the other members of the local Communications team to define the local approach to media relation, social media and influencer strategy. Has a great understanding of the social media landscape and of what makes a good story and great content.
  • Develops and maintains Ubisoft’s relationships with key local-based social media and influencers, and is able to leverage these to identify, negotiate and maximize opportunities to showcase key products, as well as managing and improving Ubisoft’s overall visibility and favorability in these channels.
  • Builds and supports Ubisoft’s local network of content creators, developing strong relationships through tailored programs, and regular communication. Drives the local approach to influencer marketing, building on existing successes to expand Ubisoft’s reach, and actual influence. Encourages engagement with grassroots, and creates a foundation for relationships that deliver on longer term brand perception as well as short term awareness.
  • Coordinates and supports impactful events, trips and exhibitions that work for press/influencers and deliver stand-out results, including press trips to Ubisoft’s global network of development studios, and local internal and external events and trade shows.
  • Shows experience and thought leadership in developing approach to earned social media outreach and amplification, tracking and quantifying engagement metrics.
  • Controls, and organizes delivery of, all press materials and messaging across allocated products, including media alerts, press packs, and other collateral.
  • Keeps abreast of external best practices and trends to recommend solutions and tools that support the communications plan.

Communication and operational effectiveness

  • Develops close working relationships with the central EMEA communications and marketing teams, to ensure clear communication and alignment, and act as the local point of contact for execution of central PR, SNS and influencer marketing plans, while providing input and direction.
  • Collaborates with the rest of the local Marketing team to deliver integrated and effective marketing campaigns that entertain and excite the consumer target audience and drive engagement with Ubisoft and its brands.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively and works closely with internal and external stakeholders, to facilitate understanding and alignment. Has a deep understanding of product attributes and benefits and acts as an advocate for his/her product portfolio, both with internal teams, and externally, with press and partners.
  • Demonstrates efficiency across marketing plans and illustrates ROI for all campaign elements, through clearly identified measurement criteria, prudent budgetary management, and thorough analysis. Contributes ideas for improving tools and procedures.

Qualifications

  • A proven consumer PR and communications experience, ideally including experience within the videogames or entertainment sectors
  • Solid/proven track record of developing and executing consumer PR plans and strategies heavily using social media platforms and tools, either in-house or in an agency environment. The successful applicant must also demonstrate analytical and strategic thought in planning, as well as the ability to execute creative tactics under tight deadlines
  • Skilled at fostering relationships with media and content creators, and familiar with the latest trends within the media landscape
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, presentation and interpersonal skills, and an eye for detail
  • Excellent Japanese and English required to work in a global context
  • Demonstrable experience utilizing social media to execute influencer marketing strategy and relationship management
  • A proactive and motivated approach, with great organizational skills
  • A positive and collaborative team player
  • A keen interest in the videogames and entertainment market
