The Role

As a Lead Level Designer, you’ll be challenged with supporting the level design team in creating FUN levels. You’ll oversee everything, from team development to planning, creative, stakeholder management (both internal and external), and collaborations with Ubisoft studios all over the world.

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage the LD team and support your team’s career advancement across the studio and identify areas for development in line with their ambitions
  • Be a people person and create a safe environment where the LD team can safely experiment and where it’s ok to fail.
  • Empower your team to make decisions. Teach and support them in setting their own priorities and objectives. Guide them to finding solutions to design problems.
  • Be a mentor in terms of Level Design for team members
  • Be bold enough and innovate within the level design processes. Question old methods and dare to do try out new ones. Develop innovative communication frameworks, templates, methods and keep them relevant, up to date during the entire project
  • Be the voice of your team when working with Directors and your Lead peers. Provide industry-leading quality benchmarks and best practices in accordance with the game's creative vision
  • Anticipate and recognize potential conflicts and recommend solutions to the team, producer, or line manager
  • Maintain project clarity and ensure the project is both sustainable and reaching the quality expected by internal and external stakeholders.
  • As a Hiring Manager, work with Recruitment and build a diverse Level Design team. Ensure that new employees integrate the team

Qualifications

What you’ll bring

  • A keen understanding of process, but also know that people are an equal, if not larger, part of the equation of success.
  • An expert knowledge of how games are built and shipped, from the ground up.
  • Are a natural leader with previous experience from leading a Level Design team.
  • Know how to act and behave as a servant leader, one who understands the importance of clear, honest communication.
  • Are used to working in an international environment and can express yourself fluently in English.
  • While our teams will retain flexibility in working from home in future, you are willing to relocate to Berlin, Germany.
