Reports to: Twin Galaxies Head of Editorial and Senior Editor

Compensation: College Credit (optional) and Letter of Recommendation upon completion. This position is unpaid monetarily.

Location: Online/ Digital

Program Overview: We are looking for a creative, knowledgeable, and passionate editorial intern to join our ever-expanding team. The Twin Galaxies Editorial Internship Program (TGEIP) provides students with hands-on experience writing for an online-based publication. We mentor students to teach proper writing skills, such as SEO, finding trending content, social marketing, and managing time while researching and writing. They will assist with brainstorming sessions, attend weekly group pitch meetings (or 1 on 1 sessions with the Editors), attend discussion about competitive gaming and esports, and marketing their own articles to other outside sources.

Duties: Students will provide 15 hours per week, minimum, in various activities. This includes a weekly group pitch meeting which goes for 60 to 90 minutes on average (this is negotiable if classes are involved at the same time), writing, marketing content, and learning SEO. Students must have 5 evergreen pieces per month, minimum, to continue to qualify for this program. News stories will vary between 8 and 15 articles per week, depending on demand and news available.

Evergreen Articles: These include opinion pieces, interviews, or any heavily-sourced long-form content. Generally, evergreen articles are minimally 700 words, but can go 4000+ in some cases, depending on the topic. Active interns must have five (5) evergreen pieces per month.

Internship Dates: This program lasts 4 months from start date, starting on a Monday and ending a Friday, 18 weeks later. This includes 1 week holiday December 24 to 28.

Initial Internship Starting Dates:

  • September 3 - January 11 (18 weeks, plus 1 week holiday in December)
  • September 10 - January 18 (18 weeks, plus 1 week holiday in December)
  • September 17 - January 25 (18 weeks, plus 1 week holiday in December)
  • September 24 - February 1 (18 weeks, plus 1 week holiday in December)

Acceptable Tasks:

  • Finding sources for articles/ fact checking
  • Writing news stories based on breaking news
  • Writing op-eds on opinions about news and trends
  • Writing features/lists
  • Copy editing
  • Brainstorming with the team
  • Marketing to social media, Reddit, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Available 2 - 3 days per week for minimum 15 hours total.
  • Must have a love of competitive video games, esports, or retro-based competition (such as speedrunning or record keeping)
  • Stable high-speed broadband internet
  • Strong writing skills (with available samples)
  • Ability to receive and incorporate feedback into work
  • Ability to work on deadline while maintaining a high quality of work
  • Detailed-oriented and willing to work on a range of editorial tasks
  • For college credit - Must be enrolled in a journalism-based, broadcast media, or similar field and handle all paperwork from their school

  • Access to current generation games and game consoles
  • Available on weekends (but not mandatory)
