Turtle Rock Studios is looking for a Lead Technical Artist to join the team! This role will focus on leading a group of amazing tech artists and act as the bridge between programmers and artists to make everyone’s life easier as we continue to make great games. We are looking for someone who can not only manage a team, but can also roll up their sleeves and get things done. This person must be highly motivated and organized, able to work as part of a large team, while communicating effectively with multiple disciplines.


  • Oversee and assist with creation, modification, and maintenance of shaders and materials
  • Manage a team of technical artists and ensure they are being set up for success on all levels - this includes mentorship and performance management
  • Champion asset pipeline creation and maintenance
  • Assist with the management and integration of art assets and ensure that all are optimal for performance and memory
  • Act as a voice for the department and make recommendations on how to improve asset quality, art process productivity and other workflow improvements
  • Work with artists and programmers to implement game content
  • Work with Programming and Production departments to develop risk/reward on new features
  • Communicate changes and creation of new tools to team; document relevant information and steps


  • Experience working with shaders and materials; creation and optimization
  • 7+ years of experience in a senior or similar capacity role
  • Enthusiastic gamer with a passion for making great games
  • Strong knowledge of Maya and Photoshop
  • Team player and strong communication skills
  • Proficiency with using profiling tools such as PIX
  • Experience with scripting and programming languages, ex. Python, C++, C#
  • Experience with Unreal Engine


  • Experience as a Lead Technical Artist
  • Experience with multiple 3D packages
  • Experience with Realtime Shaders and FX/Simulation
  • Experience with Houdini
